Week 16 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Tony Romo and QBs Destined to Destroy Defenses

Nicholas GossDec 24, 2011

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is one of several quarterbacks who will destroy opposing defenses in Week 16 and lead your fantasy football team to a league championship.

This late in the season, choosing who to start and who to bench is all about matchups and which players are the healthiest.

Let's look at three quarterbacks you must start this week in fantasy football.

1. Kyle Orton

The Kansas City Chiefs upset the previously unbeaten Green Bay Packers last week in part because of the strong game by quarterback Kyle Orton.

Orton threw for 299 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions against the talented Packers defense. He showed he is capable of making the struggling Chiefs offense better than it was with Tyler Palko at quarterback.

Orton will face the struggling Raiders defense this week, which is allowing 243 passing yards per game and are without any playmakers in the secondary.

Oakland has allowed an average of 36 points over the last three games, and their defense has looked pathetic at times.

Orton will have no problem playing well against the Raiders this week.

2. Rex Grossman

Rex Grossman will destroy a defense? Yes, you better believe it. His opponent this week is the Minnesota Vikings, who have a terrible pass defense.

The Vikings have allowed 31 passing touchdowns this season, which is the most in football, and they have no playmakers in the secondary that can make plays to slow down the Redskins.

They also allow 260 passing yards per game this season, which ranks third worst in the NFL.

Grossman has a fantastic matchup against the bad Vikings pass defense, and he should definitely be started in fantasy leagues that play two quarterbacks each week.

3. Tony Romo

The Dallas Cowboys play the Philadelphia Eagles this week, who destroyed them 34-7 in Week 8. But Tony Romo and the Cowboys won't be beaten that easily this on Sunday.

Since that Week 8 disaster, Romo has been playing extremely well. After that loss, he has thrown 18 touchdown passes with just two interceptions.

Over the last three games, he has thrown for 869 yards with eight touchdowns and no interceptions, all while completing 69.9 percent of his passes.

Romo is playing well in December and will give the Cowboys a chance to win on Sunday. He hasn't fared well against the Eagles in the past, but he looks very confident right now and you can see it in his play.
