Week 16 Fantasy Football: 3 Moves to Grab Your League Championship
The time has come for the fantasy football league championships for the 2011 NFL season in Week 16. There's one final week to make a roster move that could be the difference between first loser and being a champion.
With trades locked up, waiver wires thinned out and injuries rampant, picking up a sleeper in Week 16 is a healthy combination of chance, luck and fortune.
New York Jets: RB LaDainian Tomlinson
1 of 3The New York Jets went into Philadelphia last week hopeful and came out embarrassed. They have a chance at redemption, as they host the New York Giants in the Battle of New York.
LaDainian Tomlinson has played second fiddle to the Jets' other running back Shonn Greene, who has been a workhorse as of late. Tomlinson still gets a decent amount of touches and is always one screen pass away from breaking it. He only received seven touches last week and has only broke double digits three times in 2011. However, the Giants' run defense is not exactly noteworthy.
The Giants will be focused on shutting down Greene, and Tomlinson could be the beneficiary. He should only be picked up if you are in dire straights for a flex player or a second running back, but no risk, no reward, as they say.
New England Patriots: WR Chad Ochocinco
2 of 3For those of you who have been waiting for Chad Ochocinco to burst onto the scene for the New England Patriots, the time is now. Ochocinco caught his first touchdown last week in the highly-anticipated game versus the Denver Broncos.
Ochocinco got "the monkey off" his back last week and could be set to break out as the Patriots push towards the playoffs and a No.1 seed.
Tom Brady has been trying to get No. 85 on track all season, and it could be the start of a nice partnership. Brady's confidence in Ochocinco will no doubt rise going forward if the receiver can continue to haul in receptions and touchdowns.
This certainly falls into the chance category indicated by the opening slide, but it's worth a shot. After all, if there's any quarterback in the league that elevates the play of his wide receivers, it's "Tom Terrific."
San Diego Chargers: Defense
3 of 3The San Diego Chargers have been red hot in December, per usual. Philip Rivers getting back on track has a big part in that, but so has the Chargers defense.
San Diego dismantled the Baltimore Ravens at home last week. They held Joe Flacco and the Ravens to 14 points and gained 12 fantasy points. The prior week against the Buffalo Bills, the Chargers defense churned out a 20-point fantasy performance.
The Chargers face a tough opponent this week against the Detroit Lions. The cardiac cats have been a tough team to finish off in 2011, as proven by their comeback win last week versus the Oakland Raiders.
However, with Philip Rivers being red hot, I expect the Chargers to race out to an early lead. San Diego's defense have been swarming to the ball in the past few weeks, and they are fully capable of shutting down the Lions' passing attack.
A little bit of luck and fortune could earn you a big point total from your defense this week. Defense is all about matchups in the NFL, and this is an intriguing one.
