NBA Rumors: Mickael Pietrus is Solution Boston Celtics Need
You can never count out the luck of the Irish.
The Boston Celtics were hit hard by the loss of Jeff Green, who found out that he would need season-ending surgery to correct an aortic aneurysm.
There is nothing that will help the Celtics lose a talent such as Green. As a fan, you have to hope that Green comes back as healthy as ever. That being said, there is a gaping hope on the wings left for the Celtics to address just days before the start of the regular season.
The Celtics may want to send a gift basket to the Phoenix Suns, who just packaged the perfect solution to their woes. NBC Sports reports the Suns have waived Mickael Pietrus after a failed trade with the Toronto Raptors.
As the report notes, Pietrus will have to clear waivers first, and then he can sign with the team of his choosing. It seems that he is keen on the Celtics, and the feeling just has to be mutual.
A. Sherrod Blakely for NECN.com agrees that the Celtics should be looking at Pietrus to solve their need for a wing player that can stretch the floor and get up the floor like Green could.
Blakely caught up with an NBA scout who has Pietrus as a perfect match for the Celtics.
"Without Jeff Green, they really don't have an athletic wing player. Sasha (Pavlovic) has some athleticism, but he's not in the same class as Pietrus. And Marquis (Daniels), he's a solid player, but you wouldn't consider him as an athletic wing guy.
"
Pietrus may have lingering knee issues, but the Celtics are beggars that are in no positions to be choosers.
The Celtics now have the perfect player to solidify an aging squad for what could be a final push for another NBA title. Amidst a huge loss, the Celtics just got a gift sent their way.
