Forget About Triple H: Undertaker Should Face Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 28

Tony DolemiteDec 25, 2011

Triple H versus Undertaker was one of the biggest matches at WrestleMania 27 earlier this year, and there's been talk of a rematch at next year's WrestleMania.

This will be the third time both legends have faced each other at the event.

Their first match at WrestleMania 17 was by far the superior match of the two. The difference is that a number of years have gone by between the two matches. The two athletes have each sustained injuries and age has caught up to both of them.

Their match this year was a classic. That being said, why have another?

It's time for both men to move on.

They can't carry WrestleMania on their backs every year because there is a dearth in talent. New chapters should be written and added to both men's stories. I can't seem to come up with the right opponent for Triple H, but I do have a worthy one for Undertaker.

That man is none other than Chris Jericho.

Perhaps I am getting ahead of myself. Chris Jericho, as of this article's writing, has not officially signed a deal with WWE. His return to the company has been speculated based on the "It Begins" promos.

Although Jericho has denied re-signing with the company or ever coming back at all, it could all be a swerve, which is standard in the business.

He is in a great position to come back. He can control how he comes back and who he would like to work with. He could name any number of stars to work with, but Undertaker's streak would cause anyone to salivate.

Imagine being the one to end the streak!

Jericho does not have to end it, but he would present an awesome challenge. Jericho could be preparing for a major return right in time for the Royal Rumble. The foundation for a feud with Undertaker could be set up there. This would be a great way to re-introduce the fans to Jericho, who would fill the void that's existed within the company for too long.

Chris Jericho, outside of Triple H or John Cena, is the only big name in the business who could actually represent a credible threat to Undertaker's streak.

They have never faced each other at WrestleMania. In fact, they have rarely faced each other throughout their careers, creating the sense that this would truly be a fresh feud.

As the legacy of the streak continues to grow, there needs to exist the same threat that there has always been, that it could easily end under the right circumstances. In order for that threat to be taken seriously, Undertaker needs to face an opponent who is special.

There is no one who qualifies better than Jericho. If Jericho came back, it would give the Undertaker's match that extra oomph!

Jericho would also come back in great shape, bringing out the best in the dead man. If Undertaker has only one or two matches left, they need to be treated as special classics.

Why have a rematch with another legend who is almost past his prime when you can have a match with a superstar that will make both athletes look good and give the match that true WrestleMania feeling?

It has also been speculated that if Jericho comes back it will be to face CM Punk at WrestleMania instead. Yes, this would also be a classic, but it doesn't need to happen at WrestleMania.

It could be what carries us into the summer at Summer Slam or into the fall. Better yet, let the momentum for their match build for WrestleMania 29.

For now, Jericho is needed elsewhere. He has a destiny to fulfill. I think it might have something to do with ending a certain streak.
