2 NFL QBs Whom Fans Should Have Ranked Ahead of Tim Tebow in Pro Bowl Voting

Ryan PhillipsDec 22, 2011

The NFL's fans, in their infinite wisdom, picked Denver Broncos starter Tim Tebow as the third quarterback for the AFC in Pro Bowl voting. While it is a down year for passers in the AFC, and a deserving Matt Schaub is injured, the fans got this one wrong.

While the Broncos have been winning with Tebow under center, his numbers do not reflect those of a Pro Bowl quarterback. So far this season, Tebow has completed 107 of 220 passes (48.6 percent) for 1,484 yards, with 11 touchdowns and two interceptions.

I'm sorry, but a guy who has only completed 107 passes and just 48.6 percent of his throws hasn't earned a spot in the Pro Bowl.

At least two guys deserve a spot in that game over Tebow.

Philip Rivers

1 of 2

While Philip Rivers had a horrid start to the 2011 season, he has come on and dominated over the past month.

Rivers threw an awful 14 interceptions through San Diego's first eight games.

Since then, he has turned his year around dramatically.

Over the past four weeks, Rivers has completed 82 of 120 passes (68.3 percent) for 992 yards, with eight touchdowns and no interceptions.

On the season, Rivers has completed 319 of 503 passes (63.4 percent) for 4,015 yards, with 23 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. His passer rating of 89.4 ranks fourth in the AFC.

While the Chargers are currently 7-7 and suffered through an awful six-game losing streak, Rivers can't really be blamed for the team's lack of success during that period of time.

He was under nearly constant pressure because the team's offensive line was atrocious. Thanks to injuries to Pro Bowlers Marcus McNeill and Kris Dielman, San Diego was forced to use guys who shouldn't have been on the field. The results were clearly terrible.

Since the line has somewhat solidified and gotten used to playing without McNeill and Dielman, Rivers has been back to his old self.

His overall numbers are simply better than Tebow's this season, and he deserves credit for producing those despite the lack of help around him.

Mark Sanchez

2 of 2

Don't get me wrong, in a normal year I do not think Mark Sanchez would be worthy of a Pro Bowl bid, but if fans are going to put Tebow in, why not the New York Jets' signal-caller?

Sanchez has had an uneven year, but he has really played well over the past month.

In New York's past four games, the third-year pro has completed 64 of 114 passes (56.1 percent) for 676 yards, with nine touchdowns and three interceptions.

On the season, Sanchez has completed 257 of 452 passes (56.9 percent) for 3,009 yards, with 23 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Sanchez has led the Jets to an 8-6 record, and unlike Tebow, he has played the entire season under center.

New York boasts the league's 21st-ranked rushing attack (averaging 104.1 yards per game), so the young quarterback has had to do much of the heavy-lifting on his own.

Again, if Matt Schaub were healthy, he'd certainly deserve the nod over Sanchez, but all things considered, Sanchez is more deserving than Tebow.
