Arizona State vs Boise State: Kellen Moore and Players Who Must Help Draft Stock

Eric BowmanDec 22, 2011

The Boise State Broncos will battle the Arizona State Sun Devils in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas on Thursday night, and some players must use it as an opportunity to help their status in the 2012 NFL draft.

It's the final college game for some players, meaning this is their best shot at showing NFL scouts what they can do in a game setting.

Pre-draft workouts can also help a player move up on the draft boards, but shining bright during an actual game is what will help the most.

With that said, here are three players who need to step up and help their draft stock.

Kellen Moore, QB

The winningest quarterback in college football history, Moore has the skills for the next level. He's undersized, but his superb accuracy will catch the eye of many.

His weak schedule hinders him, which is why the bowl game is so very important. A dominant showing from Moore over Arizona State will greatly help him come draft time.

Projected as a later-round draft pick, Moore must prove he can blow any team away. The bowl game is a great chance for Moore to show that he can compete at the next level.

Vontaze Burfict, LB

It's unclear whether Burfict will play or not, but Doug Haller of The Arizona Republic reported last week that he is practicing with the second team.

There was speculation that Dennis Erickson would bench Burfict because of his poor attitude, but it remains to be seen what will truly happen.

The Sun Devils desperately need Burfict out there if that want to avoid getting demolished. He's an extremely talented linebacker who will help Arizona State stay competitive.

Burfict is only a junior, which means he could return to school. However, he's projected as a first-round pick and the Sun Devils will soon transition to a new coach, so I think he leaves early.

If he is able to play, Burfict can't act out of line, plus, he has to show he can play at a high level against a very talented offense, as it will impress NFL scouts.

Projected as a mid-round draft pick, Martin has the opportunity to turn a lot of heads, since he's playing in the national spotlight.

The Sun Devils rank 59th in the country against the run, and if Burfict is playing, it will make life harder on Martin.

However, if Martin delivers a strong performance, he will rise up on the draft boards. The senior running back is listed a t 5'9", 215 pounds, but he has the speed and vision to make it at the next level.

Martin will have to land with the right team to find success, but one thing's for sure—his bowl game performance could result in him jumping up a round or falling back.

It's up to Martin to decide which one will happen.
