NFL Playoff Scenarios: Packers vs. Saints and Best NFC Championship Matchups

Eric BowmanDec 24, 2011

The NFC has steadily been on the rise, and since it has won the last two Super Bowls, many believe a team such as the Green Bay Packers or New Orleans Saints will win it all to make it three in a row for the NFC.

Of course, this means that the NFC Championship game should be epic, making for a perfect set up to the Super Bowl.

There's no denying that the top teams of the NFC are the best in the NFL, and the conference championship game will be great because of that.

With that said, here are the best potential NFC Championship matchups.

Green Bay Packers vs. New Orleans Saints

We already know that these two teams are the best the NFC has to offer, which is why it would be the greatest possible NFC Championship game.

Having played against each other to open the season, the Packers and the Saints have so much offensive talent that it would make for another great shootout. The game came down to the closing seconds the first time these two teams met this season.

Aaron Rodgers vs. Drew Brees would be another game for the ages, and depending on who wins the AFC, a matchup of Green Bay vs. New Orleans could catch more views than the Super Bowl.

That, of course, would be extremely difficult, but it's no secret that everybody and their brother would tune it to watch a rematch between the Packers and the Saints.

Dallas Cowboys vs. San Francisco 49ers

The likelihood of this game actually happening is rather slim, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't make for a fantastic game.

The Cowboys and the 49ers have a great history against one another, and since they've already done battle together this season, a rematch would be great. Dallas needed overtime to steal a victory on the road.

Entering Week 16, San Francisco hasn't given up a rushing touchdown all year. That could change before the playoffs start, but if it doesn't, the 49ers will have great momentum.

Both teams excel in different areas, and a showdown between these two would make for a close contest for all four quarters.

Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints

These division rivals do not get a long, but when they go head-to-head it's always a great game. The Saints won in overtime back in November, and on Monday night, the Falcons look to avoid being swept on the year.

There are other possible matchups that would make for an OK game, but having two NFC South foes face each other to see who plays in the Super Bowl would make for an intense game.

Atlanta has a ton of talent on offense, but Brees would keep the Saints competitive all night long. This matchup may not happen, but boy, would it be an outstanding game.

Rivalries are always heated, but when you up the stakes and the winner ends up in the Super Bowl, it becomes all out war to get the victory.
