2011 Fantasy Football Start/Sit: NFL Week 16

Ryan LesterDec 22, 2011

Here’s a look at Lester'sLegends sit and start advice as you set your lineups for the 16th week of the NFL season.

Quarterbacks
Start:
Tim Tebow @ Buffalo: I know you didn’t go into the season thinking you’d be using Tebow in your title game (or third place game), but he's been solid in all but one game. The Bills are middle of the road against the pass, but have allowed 26 passing scores. The real magic will come when he’s running the ball against their 29th-ranked run defense (139.5 ypg).

Sit:
Joe Flacco vs. Cleveland: Same scenario as last week. Flacco is too inconsistent to count on in your title game. It’s likely that there’s an available QB in your league that makes a better play than Joe. Plus the Browns rank third with 188.4 passing ypg allowed.

Running Backs
Start:
LeGarrette Blount vs. Carolina: The Panthers rank 25th with 130.4 rushing ypg allowed. They are also one of four teams that have allowed 16 or more rushing scores. They shut him down a couple of weeks ago, but I expect he gets revenge at home.

Sit:
BenJarvus Green-Ellis vs. Miami: He has nine TDs on the year and four in his past four games, but he’s averaged just 31.5 total yards in those games. If he doesn’t score, you’re in trouble.

Wide Receivers
Start:
Jabar Gaffney and Santana Moss vs. Minnesota: Their favorable fantasy playoffs schedule (NE, NYG) continues with the pathetic Vikings. While the Pats may give up more yards per game, nobody has allowed more passing scores (31). Perhaps the most pathetic part is they have just six INTs on the year.

Sit:
Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon vs. Houston: Wayne scored last week. Yeah. The Colts were finally able to win. Double yeah! That doesn’t mean I’d play either of their WRs though against the Texans’ second-ranked pass defense (181.1 ypg).

Tight Ends
Start:
Brent Celek @ Dallas: Celek has averaged 5.0 catches for 66.7 yards with three TDs in his past nine games. In the first meeting with Dallas he caught seven passes for 94 yards and a score. Unless you have one of the big dogs, Celek should be in your lineup.

Sit:
Greg Olsen vs. Tampa Bay: Olsen has solid overall numbers (45 catches, 540 yards, 5 TDs), but he has just 15 catches in his past six games with one TD and a 30.2 ypg average.

Defenses
Start:
Cincinnati vs. Arizona: The Cardinals are hot right now, but they don’t score a lot of points and give up sacks. Even if the Bengals lose, that’s a good recipe for a fantasy defense.

Sit:
Atlanta Falcons & New Orleans: Both defenses were huge last week, but obviously face much better teams (and QBs) this week. I’m expecting a shootout so look elsewhere for a defense.
