Tell me you don’t miss that.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Love him or hate him, Christian is fun to watch. He’s taken the smiling, overconfident heel persona to a whole new level, constantly interrupting spots to proclaim that he was getting screwed on a weekly basis, and only wanted what he deserved.
This run for him was among the best of his career, mostly because I have always thought that he made a much better heel than face. It just fits him, and he has always flourished when placed in that role.
His feud with Randy Orton was top notch, and I was actually very surprised when some fans complained about the number of matches these guys had. After all, two good solid workers facing off in a match with a time limit of at least 20 minutes or more, is usually just what the doctor ordered for wrestling fans.
But, after a while, it became apparent that some fans were beginning to get sick of Orton versus Christian.
Personally, I blame that on the booking, as I believe that perhaps the feud should have been handled better, namely with Christian picking up some more victories. Randy’s then-domination of SmackDown may have been challenged, but it did not take a genius to see that he was not going to be losing any ground to Captain Charisma.
To put it another way, fans saw the writing on the wall long before the WWE writers did.
But, while some grew tired of this rivalry, and complained accordingly, I, for one, loved every minute of it.
Christian had waited his entire career for a push of this magnitude, and when he finally got it, I thought he did very well with what he was given. And, I loved the fact that he and Randy did what two proud workers who respect the business do best.
They tore the house down every time they stepped into the ring.
They had some great matches, and despite who won or lost, no one could argue the work they put into entertaining fans whenever the opportunity came.
But, just when you thought Christian had finally arrived, he was put on the shelf with an ankle injury. And, the moment it happened, his fans likely came to one mutual consensus.
"Well, it’s over. When he comes back, he will be jerking the curtain again."
There’s no shame in working the first match, don’t misunderstand me on that one. But, for Christian, he has paid his dues, and worked his way up past that level.
He’s earned main-event status. It’s that simple.
But, will he keep it when he does return? Will the work he put in before he was injured count for something, or will it be ignored in favor of pushing someone else up the ladder?
Has that person already been pushed up the ladder?
Daniel Bryan went from being the guy who couldn’t keep his head above water to being the World Heavyweight Champion. It’s amazing how fast things can change in WWE, and while many fans like myself applaud the decision to put Bryan at the top, there are still many who are questioning the move.
Yes, it seems we have Christian all over again.
So, who better to challenge the current World Champion than the former World Champion?
Having a baby face as champ who is not named Randy Orton may finally put Christian on an even playing field. He can now challenge for the strap without fans fearing that at any moment he will be kicked out of the title picture in favor of the dominating Viper.
And, the fact that Christian is an unselfish veteran does nothing but help his cause.
He would undoubtedly be up to the task of doing what he could to make Bryan look good. These two could have a nice little feud, and Christian would be the right man to help legitimize him as a relevant World Champion.
After all, you’re only as good as the workers you’re in the ring with. A wrestler should always strive to face guys better than him; ones who also want to put on a great match. Otherwise, there is no pop, no excitement, and both workers end up sitting still.
Christian and Daniel Bryan could help each other, and I believe that when he returns, Christian should have at least a shot at the top prize on SmackDown once again. Why? Come on, you know why.
Because he deserves "one more match!"
