2012 NFL Draft: Denard Robinson Files Paperwork for NFL Draft, Seeks Evaluation

Zachary D. RymerDec 21, 2011

Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson can enter the 2012 NFL Draft if he wants to.

According to ESPN.com Big Ten blogger Adam Rittenberg, Robinson is at least doing his homework on the idea. He has filed paperwork to the NFL draft advisory board, a gesture that indicates he is interested in knowing what the NFL thinks of him as a player.

However, Robinson is not necessarily leaning towards going pro. When Rittenberg asked Robinson if he is planning on returning to Michigan for the 2012 season, Robinson replied, "most likely, yes."

Returning to Michigan for one more season is in Robinson's interest. He needs to prove himself as a passer, and another year in Al Borges' pro-style offense will allow him to do that.

Robinson even admitted that another year would help.

"A year under my belt is going to help me a lot," Robinson said. "I think I can do some special things next year."

The bright side for Robinson is that he has more than enough speed to make it at the next level. He’s one of the fastest players in college football, and he knows what to do when he has an open field ahead of him.

However, Robinson's deficiencies as a passer are self-evident. His arm strength is merely decent, and his accuracy is downright poor. It doesn't help that he is short for a quarterback at 6'1".

There is a role for Robinson to play in the NFL, but in all likelihood, it won't be at the quarterback position.

If that's the position he wants to play, he'll have to prove he can do it.
