Oklahoma Football Recruiting: Replacement Prospects for Brandon Williams

Randy ChambersDec 21, 2011

It's just another day in recruiting that makes everything so interesting.

Oklahoma running back Brandon Williams was one of the Sooners' top recruits last year and was expected to have a fabulous career. After 219 rushing yards his freshman year, he has now been given permission to transfer and will likely end up with the Texas A&M Aggies.

With several other running backs leaving the university as well and an injury to Dominique Whaley, the Sooners are really thin at the position. But the good news is, this opens the door for a top recruit to come in and help contribute right away.

Here are some of the 2012 prospects that could replace Brandon Williams.

Alex Ross

1 of 3

Alex Ross is the only back to commit to Oklahoma so far this season, but he could easily step in and contribute. At 6'1", 205 pounds, he has a great combination of power and speed. He'll either bowl by you or has the ability to bounce off and tackles and keep going.

Great field vision and very explosive runner.

As a junior in high school, he rushed for over 1,600 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Mike Davis

Mike Davis had committed to Florida but recently backed out for undisclosed reasons. Now he has opened everything back up again, and there are a ton of big teams on his list, including Oklahoma.

Davis may lack that burning speed, but he is a patient runner that will wait for his blocks to develop. He has great instincts and good field vision.

He recently visited with Florida State but plans to announce his decision on National Signing Day.

Barry Sanders Jr.

3 of 3

This may be a long-shot, as the son of legendary running back Barry Sanders is showing great interest in Oklahoma State. The same college his father played for.

While the Sooners haven't extended an offer to the speedster running back, they may now. Oklahoma needs a running back, and there's no better way to find him than to shoot for the stars.

Sanders Jr. has put the recruiting process on hold but is expected to make his decision during the U.S. Army All-American Game. Oklahoma needs to act now.
