Week 16 Fantasy Football Rankings: 5 Top Touchdown Targets Sure to Score

Gabe ZaldivarDec 20, 2011

If you have made it this far, it means you are great at taking direction. So here are a few other words of wisdom for you to consider.

With nothing short of more playoff success on the line, we look at five studs that will find the ball in their hands and the end zone in their sights this weekend.

The important thing is to end strong. Some teams will be hanging it up and waiting for the playoffs to arrive, others are facing horrid matchups that would make your fantasy team look like a bunch of St. Louis Rams by the return they give.

We have spotlighted some stars that proved they are still awake this late into the season. If you are looking to get pushed off that fence on a particular player, this is the right place.

Calvin Johnson was looking a tad more like Bumblebee than he was Megatron lately. Then came a breakout game that would have made Michael Bay happy. Um, sorry Oakland Raiders fans.

Johnson leads this list of stars that will be more like this

This week, it's all about the targets that will continue to get love from their quarterbacks. You don't want to just win in the fantasy football playoffs, you want to annihilate your opponent and make them feel stupid for even showing up this season.

Well, here are the gentleman that can help your cause, as you go from under the radar fantasy owner to full-fledged winner talking trash along the way.

Here are some sure-fire studs to target in Week 16.

5. Julio Jones, WR

1 of 5

It seems as though Julio Jones is back to feeling spry. He caught another touchdown, making three in two games. The stage is now set for a great weekend against the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints are soft on covering the aerial attack, and that is precisely what this game will become: two teams bombing it all over the field.

Jones should see a pleasant spike in his production that will have you smiling well into the final week of the season.

4. Santonio Holmes, WR

2 of 5

I have Santonio Holmes listed as my redemption player of the week. He will shake off a meager game filled with gaffes to deliver a true showing of his talent.

The Giants may be a consistent force on offense, but I have no faith in how their defense has played in the second half of the season. This will be a breakout game for the star receiver.

3. Mike Wallace, WR

3 of 5

It's hard to rely on any Steelers offensive weapon when Ben Roethlisberger is busy limping around the field and getting pummeled by a fierce pass rush.

Well, a week to heal plus a pleasurable matchup means Mike Wallace wins. The St. Louis Rams are up, and they don't cover anyone very well.

This should be a comfortable Steelers victory, where Wallace gets most of the targets once again. This time, Roethlisberger will be upright to throw the ball with some measure of precision.

2. Brent Celek, TE

4 of 5

Brent Celek exploded last week, and the lovely ripple effect will continue into this week. You can't ignore that he was targeted often and delivered nearly every time.

Celek had five receptions for 156 yards with a touchdown. That included a 73-yard reception that was nearly a second score. The Cowboys are easy on tight ends, so make sure you have Celek targeted as a player who will give you the edge in your weekly matchup.

1. Calvin Johnson, WR

5 of 5

Calvin Johnson was lights out, until he wasn't. The Detroit Lions' star receiver had some mediocre showings until he busted out on the Oakland Raiders.

Johnson made Raiders defenders look silly, and should do the same to Chargers tasked with covering him. This may not be a 33-point drubbing like he gave in most Yahoo Leagues, but I think he can definitely put together a game north of 20. That should be all you need to move onto Week 17.
