Floyd Mayweather Expected to Take Plea Deal in Assault Case

Ryan RudnanskyDec 20, 2011

Much has been made about a potential super fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

The problem is, Mayweather has been facing assault charges in court.

Mayweather is expected to plead guilty on Wednesday in a Las Vegas Justice Court, in a plea deal that will see his charges significantly reduced, according to TSN.

Mayweather is facing felony charges for allegedly battering his ex-girlfriend, stealing her cellphone and threatening two of their children at her home in September 2010. He could have faced 34 years in prison for these charges.

He's also facing misdemeanor charges for allegedly poking a security guard in the face during an argument about parking tickets in November 2010.

In a plea deal, Mayweather would reportedly face $3,000 in fines, and anywhere between two days to 18 months in jail.

Yes, quite the range, but even if he is sentenced to 18 months, that's much better than 34 years.

Mayweather's troubles have been well-documented throughout his career. His life is a walking drama inside and outside the ring. He also made headlines in July, when TMZ.com reported that he burned a $100 bill at an Atlanta nightclub.

Hopefully this is the last time we hear about Mayweather facing charges. It would be a shame if legal issues cut his career short.

Especially when a Pacquiao fight still has a prayer of happening.
