Texas vs. North Carolina: UNC Set to Win Big over Longhorns

Luis BatlleDec 20, 2011

Over the last three seasons in college basketball, the matchup between the Texas Longhorns and the No. 6 North Carolina Tarheels features a particularly exciting atmosphere for basketball fans across the nation.

Despite Texas winning each of the last two meetings in the last two seasons, it is a UNC team led by head coach Roy Williams that is destined to win this basketball game.

One of the big things that separates these two teams is the fact that the Tarheels have had the significantly more difficult schedule and have beaten some of the more solid teams.

The Tarheels are on track for a promising season, as expected. The team is 10-2 thus far, dropping games to two tough teams in UNLV and former No. 1 Kentucky.

Throughout the course of the season, the Tarheels have also won games against some of the more solid teams in the nation. This includes wins over Michigan State and No. 7 Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, the Longhorns have not faced many top-notch opponents, as the team's only quality win of the season comes against a streaking Temple team that has surprised many.

Production wise, on paper, UNC out-scores and out-rebounds the Longhorns. The Tarheels are ranked No. 3 in points per game with 86.4 a contest, and No. 1 in rebounds per contest with 44.9.

The Longhorns, on the other hand, have played fewer quality opponents and rank No. 18 with 80.5 points per game and No. 39 in rebounds with 39.5 brought down per game.

There is also a special spark to this Tarheels offense, as point guard Kendall Marshall has him team running arguably the most lethal and dynamic offenses in the country.

On the season Marshall averages 10.2 assists per game, helping lead the team with third-highest assists per game in the nation.

With Marshall running the point, and teammates Harrison Barnes, Tyler Zeller and John Henson pouring in the points, it's hard for any team to keep up; the entire offense has been heating up. UNC has scored at least 97 points in three of its last four games.

Expect the Tarheels to step all over Texas in what will be a double-digit victory for the team.
