2012 NFL Mock Draft: Why Miami Dolphins' Woes End at 2012 Draft

Gabe ZaldivarDec 20, 2011

The Miami Dolphins flirted with sucking for Andrew Luck. They will find it is far more beneficial to not be that good for Matt Barkley.

Dolphins want just one thing this holiday season, and that's a consistent star at quarterback. They are tired of seeing mediocre arms bring down what could be a very good team.

I am not about to deride Matt Moore who has filled in nicely for Chad Henne. While inconsistent, he has been a step up in the quarterback department, but this team craves more.

The franchise of Dan Marino has been far too long without a quarterback that could drive ticket sales and deliver wins. It's a great thing that the Dolphins have been just bad enough to sneak in and steal Matt Barkley from other teams in need of a QB.

The obvious point to be made here is that the draft order is going to go through a great deal of tumult as the season comes to a close. After that, there is a great deal of change that will come as players work out and ascend or descend based on draft workouts.

Yet, from what we can see in our crystal ball of college football fortune and NFL demise is that the Dolphins will sit comfortably in a place where they can grab the USC standout.

The Colts have a no-brainer decision in nabbing Andrew Luck. The Redskins are in dire need of an arm, but I have them taking the hot new kid on the block in Robert Griffin III.

That leaves the Dolphins to score with a player that has been no less than phenomenal this season at USC. Barkley is a big time arm with big game sensibilities.

He has the accuracy and poise to lead the Dolphins as their young defense catches up with the rest of the team. This is a perfect young player to grow with the new regime and give fans reason to believe bright days are ahead in Miami.
