NFL Week 16 Picks: Teams Who Will Benefit from Being Home for the Holidays

T.J. McaloonDec 20, 2011

There is nothing like being home for the holidays. It’s why a team like the Seattle Seahawks’ home-field advantage will carry them to a huge victory over the NFC West division leader, the San Francisco 49ers.

The Seahawks have won three of their last four home games, outscoring their opponents 83-44. On top of the three wins at home, the Seahawks have won five of their last six games.

This stretch of wins have been jump started by their running back, Marshawn Lynch. Lynch has led this offense with eight total touchdowns and 613 rushing yards while carrying the ball at least 20 times or more.

Lynch has been great; however, the Seahawks defense has been even better.

During their five wins, the defense has given up more than 14 points only once while holding teams to 14 points or less four times.

They will give the 49ers a lot of problems on Saturday and will come away with a much-needed win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Green Bay Packers

Green Bay comes home to play on Christmas day against their biggest rival, the Chicago Bears.

The Packers did suffer a crushing defeat last week on the road at Kansas City. However, now that they are back at home in front of their fans at Lambeau Field, it will result in the Packers clinching the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Home field advantage is one thing; going against a Bears offense that hasn’t scored more than 20 points in four weeks is another.

Since the Bears lost starting quarterback Jay Cutler, they have been horrible.

With Caleb Hanie as the starting quarterback, Chicago has point totals of 20, three, 10 and 14.

Green Bay is favored by 13 points and will have no problems in covering this spread.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh was beaten down on the road last week to the San Francisco 49ers. They have two pivotal injuries on their offense to center Maurkice Pouncey and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger

This week, they travel back home to face a St. Louis Rams team that is fighting for the No. 1 draft pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

This Rams team started the season losing their first six games. They currently are on a five-game losing streak, which has them starting their third-string quarterback, Kellen Clemens.

Seeing the type of team that the Rams are going to put onto the field this Saturday should make it easy for the Steelers to rest Pouncey and Roethlisberger.

The Steelers just have too much talent on both sides of the ball to get upset at home this week. They will cruise to victory while letting their key offensive weapons heal up.

These three teams will give the gift of a victory to their fans at home this week. For the Packers and Steelers, the victory only helps their teams get on a winning streak before the playoffs while the Seahawks try to keep their playoff hopes alive.
