WWE: Will We See Triple H vs Undertaker at Wrestlemania 28?

Drake OzDec 21, 2011

The speculation about a WrestleMania rematch between Triple H and The Undertaker has already begun.

Triple H returned to the WWE on last week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, and though his return promo was directed at Kevin Nash, it had a very clear focus on the man who beat him at WrestleMania 27, The Phenom.

During his promo after winning the award for “OMG Moment of the Year” (for The Undertaking kicking out of the tombstone at WrestleMania 27), Triple H made an incredibly bold claim:

“Nine months later, The Undertaker is no more. The ‘Oh My God’ moment was at WrestleMania when ‘The Streak’ came to an end.”

"

Some think that Triple H dropped this line as a red herring to throw us off when The Undertaker feuds with someone else whenever he does eventually return. But the majority of fans who watched this promo now seem to be fairly certain that we will get Taker vs. Triple H: Part Two at WrestleMania 28.

Consider me a part of that second group.

Although I would like to see The Undertaker return for a WrestleMania feud with someone else (preferably a young up-and-comer), I just don’t see him competing against anyone other than an established veteran when he attempts to extend “The Streak” to 20-0.

After all, just look at The Undertaker’s last four WrestleMania opponents, dating all the way back to WrestleMania 23: Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Edge and Batista

These aren’t four guys who were looking to make a name for themselves by defeating The Undertaker and ending his undefeated streak. These are four of the biggest names in the history of the WWE, with one WWE Hall of Famer and three guys who will one day join him there.

So, for those who say that The Undertaker will face a rising star like Cody Rhodes or Wade Barrett at WrestleMania 28, I say look at history and then realize that the chances of that happening are slim to none.

The Undertaker is at the tail end of his career, and it seems as if the WWE is going with the theme of putting him in matches against quality veteran opponents who company officials are certain will deliver.

And yet another theme the WWE seems to be testing out is “The rematch,” with first Shawn Michaels and now Triple H taking The Undertaker to the limit in their first match as a way of saying, “Hey, let’s have a rematch at the next WrestleMania because I ‘almost’ beat you at the last one.”

I would argue that the creative team is probably going to go with another Taker/Triple H match at WrestleMania 28 because it prevents them from having to build two new, separate feuds for those guys. But hey, what do I know?

No matter what the reasoning behind doing Triple H vs. The Undertaker again, that clearly seems to be the direction the WWE is going in.

I know some of you are still thinking that the WWE is trying to throw us off by having Triple H mention Taker in last week’s promo, but are we really going to give the creative team that much credit?

After all, it is the same group of guys that books 90 percent of its heels in the exact same way. It’s not like they’re award-winning writers here.

When it’s all said and done, I think we’ll see that they dropped that hint about Taker vs. Triple H on Raw because that’s exactly what’s going to happen.
