Felix Jones Injury: Updates on Cowboys RB's Week 16 Status and Fantasy Value

Kyle VassaloDec 20, 2011

Felix Jones' back-to-back games with over 100 yards has some fantasy owners thinking that they've found a secret weapon to help them through the playoffs.

Likewise, the Cowboys have to be elated with the production of their back. They're fighting for their playoff lives and Jones' late surge gives them a big-time weapon and provides their run game with a huge lift.

Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News is reporting that on a radio interview, Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones said he would be surprised if Jones does not play.

According to George, the owner did go on to say that Jones not practicing is a potential setback. Still, given how hands on Jones is as an owner, if he's saying that he believes a player will play, it's hard to imagine anything different happening.

Carlos Mendez of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is reporting that despite him missing practice, the Cowboys believe that Jones will play on Saturday vs. the Eagles. Jerry Jones believes that despite missing practice, his running back will be ready.

"

He's going to be involved in all team stuff...He should be able to get anything he needs to get about the game plan, about what we're trying to do. We'll just let this thing get measured.

"

For fantasy owners, this is a good play. Jones has been strong since being placed back in the starting lineup, and Philadelphia has struggled to defend the run this season.

Jones has been banged up this season and according to ESPN's Bryan Broaddus, Jason Garrett says that though his running back has a tight hamstring, he hopes to have him back on Wednesday.

The Cowboys have an extra day of preparation after playing a Saturday game against the Buccaneers. The Cowboys cannot afford to take any chances by playing Jones while he is less than 100 percent, keeping him out of the lineup could be the difference between making the postseason and being left in the cold.

Fantasy owners should feel confident that Jones will play this week. A tight hamstring shouldn't hold Jones out of action and Jones has put his toughness on display this season.

The Cowboys need a win this week against the Eagles and they need their best back in the lineup.

Jones' situation will need to be monitored this week, but by no means should you panic and start looking for his replacement unless his status changes significantly.

Be sure to check back for more updates regarding Jones' Week 16 status.
