Wayne Rooney Video: Watch Man U Star Use Alex Ferguson to Get Charades Answer

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney wasn't having much luck trying to get teammates to guess the movie Bend It Like Beckham in a game of charades. So the superstar, who's apparently just as innovative off the pitch as he is on it, used a nearly decade-old incident to earn the point.

A video of the show, which is called The Big United Quiz, is embedded above.

Rooney starts by attempting to get Ryan Giggs and Jonathan Evans to guess David Beckham's name by making some weird motions in the air, apparently attempting to signify the swerve on the former United player's free kicks.

Even after figuring out jersey No. 7, the pair isn't able to put the information together to come up with Beckham, so Rooney resorts to a more interesting option.

He points to manager Sir Alex Ferguson followed by a kicking motion and then a slap to the head. After he does it twice, Giggs gets a smirk on his face and names the movie correctly. Everybody, Ferguson included, gets a pretty good chuckle out of it.

The clue is a reference to an infamous encounter in 2003 when Ferguson, infuriated after a loss, kicked a loose cleat across the locker room, which ended up hitting Beckham in the head. It only caused minor damage near his eyebrow, but the story has lived on ever since.

The video illustrates how wide-ranging a freak accident became in the football world. Rooney was still beginning his career with Everton at the time and remembered it, as did Giggs, who couldn't even guess Beckham when given his uniform number.

It's funny how a minor story can get blown out of proportion, and this is a perfect example. The story will live on forever even though nothing really happened.

At least everybody involved can look back on it now and laugh.
