NFL Playoff Predictions: Patriots vs. Packers Super Bowl Is Inevitable

Luis BatlleDec 20, 2011

In football, the common saying that defense wins championships is and has been true over the years.

This season more than ever, defense has been the area of strength in the majority of the teams currently in the playoff picture. Seven of the top 10 defenses in yards allowed per game are currently projected playoff teams.

Despite the emphasis on the defensive side of the football this season, it will be a showing of two of the more dynamic offenses this league has seen in recent years in Super Bowl XLVI.

The New England Patriots (11-3) and Green Bay Packers (13-1) currently stand atop each of their respective conferences heading into the final two weeks of the season.

Although the Packers and Patriots have the two worst pass defenses in the league and they both get lit up on the scoreboard regularly, they are also the two teams destined to make a Super Bowl run this postseason.

Both are teams that can and have beaten the rest of the teams currently set to make the playoffs. Both teams have a combined 9-2 record against projected playoff teams, with the Patriots going 4-2 and Packers 5-0 against these teams.

Not to mention, these are two of the more experienced teams in the NFL when it comes to winning football games.

Tom Brady has helped lead the Patriots to four Super Bowl appearances, including a 16-0 season in 2007 that ended in a Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants.

Meanwhile Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers have been putting together an impressive run over the last two seasons, which includes a Super Bowl trophy and a 13-1 start in 2011.

These teams might have sluggish defenses that give up points, yet their ability to score points more than makes up for their weaknesses. The Green Bay Packers currently rank No. 1 in points per game with 34.3 a contest, while the Patriots rank No. 3, scoring just over 31 points.

When these teams are putting up over 30 points in a game, it is hard for a defensive-minded team to be able to outscore and compete with the explosive offenses that these two teams boast.

The Patriots are winners of their last six games, while the Green Bay Packers came out to a 13-0 start on the season.

There is no question these two football teams have their weaknesses, but when it's all said and done, it's their jaw-dropping offenses that compensate for the weaknesses and make both of these teams as scary as any come postseason time.
