7 Teams That Could Use New York Islanders Winger Kyle Okposo

Christopher BeniniDec 20, 2011

Could Kyle Okposo be on the move? Okposo, drafted by the New York Islanders in 2006, may have played his last games as an Islander.

According to Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, the Islanders have been shopping the young right winger, hoping to acquire a second line center. Frans Nielsen has been solid on the second line for the Isles this year, but fits better as a third line center.

There are plenty of teams around the league that could use a player like Kyle Okposo. Where would Okposo be a good fit?

Calgary Flames

1 of 7

Reunited and it feels so good. Kyle Okposo could fit in with his former teammate, Blake Comeau, in Calgary.

The Flames scoring has picked up a bit, but they still lack a scoring punch. Rene Bourque has just 14 points in 32 games and while Calgary's 82 goals no longer ranks last in the Western Conference, it does rank in the bottom half of the league.

Los Angeles Kings

While Calgary ranks at the bottom half of the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Kings rank dead last in goals for average in the entire NHL.

Kyle Okposo would be a great fit to add a scoring punch. Dustin Penner only has seven points in 33 games, so Okposo would be able to step right in...in his place.

Washington Capitals

Is there any one else in hockey that needs a change of scenery more than Alexander Semin right now?

Semin, once a prolific scorer, continues to struggle with just 12 points this season. His shot attempts have dipped with his production and a change of scenery could benefit him.

A trade for Kyle Okposo would allow him to step right into Semin's place and, at the very least, give the same amount of production that Semin was delivering for the Caps.

New Jersey Devils

A trip down the New Jersey Turnpike could be in store for Kyle Okposo.

Dainius Zubrus and Petr Sykora have been solid for the Devils at the wings of the second line, but they could use an upgrade in Okposo.

Unlike the previous teams mentioned, the Devils also have three quality centers. So they can afford to give the Isles what they are rumored to be looking for in return.

Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres recently changed their lines, moving Derek Roy to the second line. Why, you ask?

Lack of scoring depth. The Jason Pominville, Roy and Thomas Vanek line has been a good scoring line for some time, but it has been awhile since Buffalo had some scoring depth on the second line.

A trade involving Kyle Okposo and Tyler Ennis could be a good fit for both teams.

Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars continue to look like a legitimate contender for the Stanley Cup. Kyle Okposo could improve what is already one of the best teams in the west.

Steve Ott has only had more than 40 points once in his career. Okposo would be a perfect fit to step right in and take his place, as Ott gets bumped to the third line.

Minnesota Wild

Is a homecoming in store for Kyle Okposo?

You have to wonder how far the Minnesota Wild can go this season with smoke and mirrors. They have the most points in their division and only trail the league-leading Chicago Blackhawks.

Despite that though, their second line wingers Nick Johnson and Darrell Powe have combined for 19 points in 64 games. There is no doubt that the Minnesota native could deliver a scoring punch for the Wild.
