NFL Week 16 Picks: Dallas Cowboys and More Teams That Won't Cover the Spread

Eric BowmanDec 20, 2011

With only two games left in the 2011 NFL regular season, there's still plenty of chances to keep rolling or finally start winning. Picking against the spread is no easy task, but Week 16 offers up some good lines that you won't want to pass up.

Rooting for the underdog can be fun, especially if you've made a certain wager on a game. While this weekend does feature favorites who will have no trouble covering the spread, others won't be as fortunate.

With that said, here are three teams that will not cover in Week 16.

Dallas Cowboys (-2.5)

The first time the Cowboys faced the Philadelphia Eagles this season, Dallas was the underdog and ended up getting demolished.

Both teams have had their ups and downs all season, and this should make for a good game. However, the Eagles' confidence is sky high right now, and they'll take being the underdog as extra motivation to get a victory on Saturday afternoon.

Dallas is 5-8-1 against the spread, and Philadelphia is 6-8. The Cowboys have won once against the spread in the last five games, and their woes will continue as the Eagles steal a win to heat up the race in the NFC East.

Prediction: Eagles 30, Cowboys 27

Tennessee Titans (-8)

Last week the Titans choked big-time and allowed the Indianapolis Colts to get their first win. In Week 16, Tennessee will host the Jacksonville Jaguars, and it's going to be closer than most think.

Maurice Jones-Drew will be the difference-maker for Jacksonville, and the sole reason the Titans don't cover. Donald Brown torched the Titans this past Sunday, and on Saturday, Jones-Drew will have no trouble doing the same against a run defense that ranks 23rd in the NFL.

Tennessee lost two out of the last three games it was favored to win, which doesn't bode well for Saturday. I think the Titans will do enough to get the victory, but the Jaguars will keep it close and prevent them from covering.

Prediction: Titans 24, Jaguars 20

New York Jets (-3)

Rex Ryan loves to talk, and when he opened his mouth and said that he thinks the Jets are better than the Giants, all it did was give the Giants extra motivation to prove that they're the best team in New York.

The Jets have a better defense than the Giants, but what will matter more in Saturday's contest is the play of the quarterbacks, and everybody knows Eli Manning is far superior than Mark Sanchez

Plus, the last few times the Jets faced a good quarterback, things didn't go so well. (See games against Philadelphia, New England and Baltimore.)

Both teams desperately need a win, but since the Giants are worse off, they know they have to be on their A-game this Saturday, and they will.

Once again, Sanchez will make costly mistakes to allow the Giants to hang around and eventually get the win.

Prediction: Giants 34, Jets 28
