Notre Dame Football Recruiting 2012: 5 Commitments to Get the Most Excited About

Randy ChambersDec 20, 2011

With the college football season coming to a close, it's about that time to look forward to the recruiting process.

Which top players are going where, and which teams can land the most impressive young talent?

Notre Dame usually always has a top recruiting class, and this year is no different. They already have 16 commitments, and several of them are at the top of their position.

Here are a few of those players that Irish fans should be the most excited about.

DT Jarron Jones

1 of 5

It's really not hard to find Jones in the video.

He's the one guy that looks like a grown man that's playing against little kids.

And at 6'5", 290 pounds, he basically was.

Jarron Jones is very fast and strong for his size and is able to create major problems for opposing offensive linemen.

He can either rush the quarterback or drop back in coverage and make a play on the ball. He is very athletic.

He also has the ability to play offensive lineman if the Irish are struggling at the position.

This is a great pickup for Notre Dame.

RB William Mahone

2 of 5

Mahone isn't a speedster, but he does have solid speed, as he runs in the 4.5-4.6 range.

What makes him so exciting is his agility and field vision.

He's able to make defenders miss and turn what looks like a short gain into a long touchdown run.

He also has the ability to play linebacker as well, if running back doesn't work out.

He's a versatile player who will get the job done.

S C.J. Prosise

3 of 5

Watching the film, you wouldn't know if Prosise is the receiver or the safety, because more times than not, he's in better position than the receiver.

He has great coverage awareness and great hands, as he rarely drops an interception.

He also is a fabulous return man, as you can see in the video.

Something tells me he will be making a lot of plays for the Irish over the next few seasons.

WR Deontay Greenberry

4 of 5

All you have to do is watch the video, and you'll see why Greenberry will excite Irish fans.

It's really simple for quarterbacks—throw the ball up, and he will go get it with his 6'3", 180-pound frame.

He has the size and the strength to be a great receiver for this Notre Dame team and is a fantastic red-zone target and deep threat.

Greenberry holds California high school single-season records with the 2,108 receiving yards and 32 touchdowns he achieved last season.

CB Ronald Darby

5 of 5

Ronald Darby is listed as the top cornerback in the country by Scout.com in this year's recruiting class, but he can also play running back.

With his speed, I wouldn't be surprised if he could play some wide receiver as well.

Darby is extremely fast, as he ran the 100 meters in 10.55 seconds and the 200 meters in 21.24 seconds.

With his speed, he has the ability to be a game-changer and can even make some plays on special teams as well.
