John Cena's Absence from TLC Was a Test for Heel Turn

John NizinskiDec 19, 2011

One of the most glaring things going into the TLC pay-per-view was the absence of John Cena. Cena's lack of direction right now is most likely for a reason, because the creative team would not be careless with their top superstar.

Many feel that Cena being left out was a way to test the new superstars who have risen lately. Cena may enter a feud with Kane because he was attacked by Kane last week on Raw. However, the absence of Cena could also mean that the company has faith in new faces like Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan and CM Punk.

Could it be that the faith in the new superstars means that they are finally comfortable to turn Cena heel? Cena has obviously been getting mixed reviews from the WWE Universe and it is an ideal time for a heel turn. The creative team seems willing to take some chances and risks.

Cena turning heel will open up so many new options for the creative team. His old feuds with wrestlers like CM Punk, Randy Orton, Triple H and The Miz could be very different and interesting because of the different angle of John Cena. His heel turn would also throw some more fuel in the fire between him and his WrestleMania 28 opponent, The Rock.

It is still unclear whether they actually will ever turn Cena heel, but TLC could have been an indication that he will. Time will tell if they do decide to turn Cena heel, how they will do it and who will be involved.

If John Cena is entering a feud with Kane, creative may run into a problem because they may intend for Kane to be a huge heel that they desperately need and for Cena to be the face. However, fans are excited to see that Kane is back with the mask. It is possible that Cena gets the boos as if he were the heel and Kane gets the cheers as if he was the face.
