NFL Playoff Picture: Philadelphia Eagles Will Back into a Playoff Spot

The Philadelphia Eagles started the season as the “Dream Team,” but the reality of the situation was soon exposed as a nightmare.

Now sitting at 6-8, the Eagles may back their way into a division title and a home playoff game.

While 11th in the NFC with just two weeks left in the season looks bad for the Eagles, they are not as far from backing into the playoffs as you may imagine.

The first key will be Philadelphia controlling their own destiny. With two games remaining against division foes the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins, Philadelphia has to win out and finish the season at 8-8 to have any chance of sneaking in.

For the Eagles wild playoff berth to come to fruition not only do the Dallas Cowboys have to loss to Philadelphia in Week 16, they have to lose to the New York Giants in the final week of the season.

That would leave the Dallas Cowboys at 8-8 as well.

The final aspect of this crazy situation will be this week’s game for the Giants. They are facing off against their cross-town rivals the New York Jets in what could be an epic battle. For Philadelphia to pull off the shocking upset, the Giants must lose to the Jets and then best the Cowboys in Week 17.

If all of these situations come to fruition, the Giants, Eagles and Cowboys would all be 8-8 on the season. That means with tiebreakers the Philadelphia Eagles would make the playoffs.

Dallas did terrible against the Giants and Eagles so far this season, so if this scenario plays out they will be just an afterthought. With New York and Philadelphia splitting their pair of matchups, it would fall to the divisional record which Philadelphia will control if they win out.

Philadelphia would have to be playing lights out to sneak into the playoffs, so if they do make it, watch out for the Eagles. They could make a Green Bay Packers-type Super Bowl run with no pressure on them.
