NFL Power Rankings Week 16: Playoff Odds for Every Team
It was a crazy week in the NFL. The Chiefs knocked the Packers off to end their pursuit of the perfect season, and the Colts beat the Titans by two touchdowns for their first win of the season.
The playoff picture is getting clearer with each passing week. Click through to see where each team ranks in this week's power rankings and their odds of making the postseason.
32. The Indianapolis Colts
1 of 32The Colts finally got their first win of the season against the Titans on Sunday. Most Colts' fans will tell you they do not want to win anymore games so that they do not miss out on Andrew Luck.
Indianapolis finishes the season against Houston and Jacksonville. They will not beat the Texans, but have a shot to knock off the Jaguars. The only question is would that be enough to put them in the #2 draft spot? They will be cheering for the Rams to get a win.
COLTS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Long gone.
31. The St. Louis Rams
2 of 32The Rams are not going to win another game. Their two remaining games are against the Steelers and 49ers. There biggest hope right now is that the Colts can win one or two more so they have a shot at the #1 overall pick.
St. Louis probably would not draft Andrew Luck with all of the money they have invested in Sam Bradford, but they would be in a nice position to get a huge package of picks from a team that wanted Luck's services.
RAMS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Nope.
30. The Cleveland Browns
3 of 32It has been a really long season for the Browns. They had high hopes before the season started but have been terrible.
Now they are dealing with potential fallout from allowing Colt McCoy to re-enter a game when he clearly had a concussion.
They have a tough remaining schedule that ends with Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Losses in those two games will put them in good position to get McCoy a weapon for 2012.
BROWNS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Off the board.
29. The Minnesota Vikings
4 of 32The Vikings are another team that desperately need another offensive playmaker. Christian Ponder has not looked as good in the last few weeks. That is partially due to injury and partially due to the lack of a deep threat on the outside.
There is an outside chance the Vikings could still end up with the #1 pick in the draft. They would have to lose out, but they have winnable games against the Redskins and Bears down the stretch. They should at least split those two.
VIKINGS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Not this year.
28. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers
5 of 32This season has been nothing short of a debacle for the Buccaneers. A debacle is what it takes for your coach to go from a coach of the year candidate one season to on the hot seat the next season. That is exactly what has happened in Tampa.
The biggest problem has been the regression of Josh Freeman and Mike Williams. Those two looked poised to be a dynamic duo last season. They have both been terrible this season.
BUCCANEERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Zero.
27. The Jacksonville Jaguars
6 of 32You have to respect Maurice Jones-Drew. He is still busting it every week for a team that has nothing to play for and is terrible on offense.
This is going to be a busy offseason in Jacksonville. They are going to have to find a new coach. That new coach is then going to have to decide if Blaine Gabbert has a chance to be a good NFL quarterback. The jury is out on that one right now.
They do have two winnable games left against the Titans and Colts before the season ends.
JAGUARS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Eliminated.
26. The Washington Redskins
7 of 32The Redskins cannot beat many teams this season, but they sure can beat the Giants. Washington has five wins on the season. Two of them were against the Giants.
The #1 goal for the Redskins this offseason will be to find a quarterback. You can bet that Mike Shanahan would love to get Robert Griffin III to work with next season.
REDSKINS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Zilch.
25. The Kansas City Chiefs
8 of 32All the Chiefs needed was a coach change to get them going! They pulled off an upset against Green Bay that no one saw coming.
Kansas City could win their last two against the Raiders and Broncos if they play like they did against the Packers. Of course it is pretty crazy to expect a 6-8 to be on their game for the three straight weeks. It is more likely that they split those two and end the season 7-9, but 8-8 would make things interesting in the AFC West.
CHIEFS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Very slim.
24. The Buffalo Bills
9 of 32The Bills have not won a game since the day before Halloween. That is seven straight losses after a 5-2 start.
The good news for Buffalo is that C.J. Spiller looks like he is living up to where the Bills took him in the draft. He has made the most of his opportunity after Fred Jackson went to IR.
The bad news is that Ryan Fitzpatrick has been terrible since signing his new contract.
BILLS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Nope.
23. The Miami Dolphins
10 of 32It has been an interesting season for the Dolphins. They got another unexpected win Sunday in Buffalo.
Miami is another team that is searching for a coach. Look for them to add a big name. They will also need to find someone to play quarterback.
They have two division games left against the Patriots and Jets. It is hard to see them beating the Patriots, but they could play spoiler to the Jets in week 17.
DOLPHINS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Nada.
22. The Chicago Bears
11 of 32It has become clear that the Bears are not going anywhere with Caleb "Pick Six" Hanie under center. It is a sad end to a Chicago season that had such promise just six weeks ago.
They will not beat the Packers this weekend, but they might be able to rally the troops to beat the Vikings in week 17. It is crazy how far the mighty have fallen.
BEARS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Not going to happen.
21. The Carolina Panthers
12 of 32The Panthers pulled off a very unlikely upset over the Texans on Sunday.
They have had a much better season that most people expected. They are only a couple of players on defense away from being a dangerous team. The future is bright in Carolina for the first time in a while.
PANTHERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: All eyes on 2012.
20. The Arizona Cardinals
13 of 32It is pretty unbelievable that the Cardinals are still alive in the playoff hunt. They are on life support, and the odds are long, but there is still a chance.
They have two pretty tough games remaining. This week they travel to Cincinnati before playing the Seahawks at home. They need to win both and get a lot of help to make the playoffs, but it did not look like they would have this opportunity six weeks ago.
CARDINALS' PLAYOFF ODDS: Less than 4%.
19. The Oakland Raiders
14 of 32The Raiders have been up and down a lot this season. Currently they are one game behind the Broncos in the AFC West race.
They are probably not getting a wild card spot so they are going to need to win both of their remaining games and hope the Broncos slip up. That will not be easy without Darren McFadden and with a struggling Carson Palmer.
Their remaining games are against the Chiefs and Chargers. They will beat the Chiefs but lose to the Chargers.
RAIDERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 18%
18. The Philadelphia Eagles
15 of 32The Dream Team kept their very slim playoff hopes alive with a beatdown of the New York Jets on Sunday.
Philadelphia can still win the NFC East, but they will need to win out. They will also need the Cowboys to lose both of their remaining games, and the Giants to lose at least one.
The Eagles can help themselves out tremendously with a win over Dallas this week.
EAGLES' PLAYOFF ODDS: 5%.
17. The Tennessee Titans
16 of 32It is Jake Locker time in Tennessee. It is clear that he gives the Titans the best chance to win at this point.
Tennessee still has a chance to make the playoffs, but they are going to need a lot of help. They need at least one loss from the Jets, Chargers, Raiders, and Bengals to have a shot. Those are long odds.
They really need to give Locker a chance to see what they have for 2012.
TITANS' PLAYOFF ODDS: About 8%.
16. The Seattle Seahawks
17 of 32Seattle won their third straight game in Chicago on Sunday.
They are another team that needs a lot of help to make the playoffs. The Seahawks have to win their remaining games against the 49ers and Cardinals and hope for some losses from teams ahead of them.
Seattle has done a lot more already this season that most people expected. They will have some positive momentum heading into 2012.
SEAHAWKS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 5%.
15. The New York Jets
18 of 32The Jets got blown out against the Eagles on Sunday, but would still be the #6 seed in the AFC playoffs if the season ended today.
Their route to the playoffs is really simple: Win two games and they are in. Those two games are against the Giants and Dolphins. Neither of those games are easy wins, but they are both very winnable games if the good Jets team show up.
They could lose both games if the team that showed up against Philadelphia shows up.
JETS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 62%
14. The Denver Broncos
19 of 32So Tim Tebow is not unbeatable after all. Actually, what Sunday's game proved was that it has been the Broncos' defense winning football games, not Tebow.
All of that being said, the Broncos are still in control of their own playoff destiny. They have a one game lead over the Raiders and Chargers in the AFC West. All they have to do is win both of their remaining games and they are assured a spot.
BRONCOS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 75%
13. The New York Giants
20 of 32It is hard to believe that two losses to the Washington Redskins could be what keeps the Giants from winning the NFC East.
The good news for New York is that they still control their own destiny. They are one game behind the Cowboys but have already beaten them once and still have another game against them. All they have to do is win their games against the Jets and Cowboys and they are in.
GIANTS' PLAYOFF CHANCES: 54%.
12. The Dallas Cowboys
21 of 32It is going to be an interesting end to the season in Dallas. They have two games left against NFC East opponents. Win both of those games and they win the division. Lose either one of those games and they could be on the outside looking in.
Jason Garrett needs to make the playoffs to keep his job because Jerry Jones has long coveted Jeff Fisher as his head coach. That is just something for you to keep an eye on.
COWBOYS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 52%.
11. The San Diego Chargers
22 of 32The Chargers are just doing what they do. They play mediocre football for most of the season before looking unbeatable in December.
San Diego still has some work to do if they are going to make the playoffs. They have tough games against the Lions and Raiders. They will need to win both of those games and get help from the Broncos' opponents to win the division.
They proved Sunday night they are a team no one wants to play right now.
CHARGERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 32%.
10. The Cincinnati Bengals
23 of 32The Bengals got another big win this week against the Rams. That win kept them in the playoff hunt for another week.
Cincinnati has a very winnable game against the Cardinals at home this week before the Ravens come to town in week 17. The Bengals will probably need a win in both of those games to get the sixth and final AFC playoff spot.
This may not be the year for the Bengals, but their future is brighter than it has been in a long time.
BENGALS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 46%
9. The Detroit Lions
24 of 32The Lions are sitting in a really nice spot right now. They are tied with the Falcons at 9-5 for the two wild card spots. The next closest teams in the wild card hunt are 7-7.
Detroit had two pretty tough games with the Chargers and Packers left on their schedule, but they just need to win one of those two games. There is a good chance Green Bay will not be playing for anything int he week 17 game.
LIONS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 85%.
8. The Atlanta Falcons
25 of 32The Falcons are all but assured a playoff spot. They are just fighting for the higher wild card seed.
They could fall out if they lose both of their remaining games, but their week 17 game is against the Buccaneers. There is no shot they are losing that one.
Atlanta started the season off slow, but they are hitting their stride at exactly the right time.
FALCONS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 90%.
7. The Houston Texans
26 of 32The Texans finally lost a game. It was quite an amazing run they had to win all of the games they have won this season with the injuries they have sustained.
That loss knocked Houston down the #3 seed in the AFC. There is a good chance they will be back in the top two before the season is over because their final two games are against the Colts and the Titans. It is hard to see them losing every game.
TEXANS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 100%.
6. The Baltimore Ravens
27 of 32The Ravens have had trouble on the road all season long. This past week was no exception when they lost 34-14 to Chargers.
They are in the playoffs. They are just fighting for seeding at this point. Baltimore still has the chance to end up anywhere between the #1 and #5 seed in the playoffs.
Their two remaining games are against the Browns and Bengals. They should not have much problem winning either of those games. Then it will just be a matter of hoping other teams lose.
RAVENS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 100%.
5. The Pittsburgh Steelers
28 of 32The Steelers had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the AFC North after the Ravens lost to the Chargers, but they were not able to do so with their loss to the 49ers.
The Steelers have a really easy remaining schedule with games against the Rams and Browns. They will win both of those easily and keep the pressure on the Ravens. The only way Pittsburgh can win the division is if they finish with a better record than Baltimore because they lost both games against the Ravens.
STEELERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 100%.
4. The San Francisco 49ers
29 of 32The 49ers got a big win on Monday Night Football to keep pace with the Saints in the race for the #2 seed in the NFC.
San Francisco has the most favorable schedule remaining with games against Seattle and St. Louis. They should be able to win both of those and keep the pressure on New Orleans.
There is not a more surprising team in the NFL this season than the 9ers.
49ERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 100%.
3. The New England Patriots
30 of 32The Patriots did the whole country a favor when they knocked off the Broncos this past week.
New England has already clinched their division and a spot in the playoffs. They are in the hunt for the #1 seed in the AFC. They will have to finish with a better record than the Steelers in order to get that seed because the Steelers beat them in week eight.
Their last two games are against the Dolphins and Bills. You can go ahead and put those in the win column.
PATRIOTS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 100%.
2. The New Orleans Saints
31 of 32Drew Brees is quietly making his case for MVP over Aaron Rodgers. He put up another ridiculous performance against the Vikings this week.
The Saints have a really big game this week against the Falcons. A win in that one will clinch the division, but they will still be playing for seeding in their week 17 game against the Panthers.
One thing is for sure, the Saints are a team that no one wants to play right now.
SAINTS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 100%.
1. The Green Bay Packers
32 of 32The Packers lost to the Chiefs this weekend, but that did not really change anything for them. They are still the NFC North Champions and will still be the #1 seed in the NFC playoffs.
Some people would argue that it is actually better for Green Bay to go ahead and get their loss out of the way now. It will take some of the pressure of the perfect season off, and it will allow them to rest any starters that might be banged up over the last couple of weeks.
PACKERS' PLAYOFF ODDS: 100%.
