20 Current NFL Players Headed for Hall of Fame

Bill RobbinsDec 19, 2011

One of the biggest ultimate goals of nearly every NFL player includes winning a championship.

Another goal that is also very high on the list is making the pro football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Many current NFL stars already seem to qualify for this, including Super Bowl champion QBs Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger and Peyton Manning.

Here is the full list of 20 active players in the league that I think have the best shot right now to have their bust in Canton once their career is over.

Tom Brady

Brady arguably has the best resume out of any active QB in the league right now.

With these numbers, there's little doubt that the former sixth-round pick out of Michigan will find himself in Canton someday.

Peyton Manning

COMP %: 64.9

YDS: 54,828

TD: 399

INT: 198

Pro Bowls: 11

Super Bowl Wins: 1

Peyton Manning has been referred to as the smartest QB that has ever played the game by name NFL experts.

He's also one of the best quarterbacks in league history as well.

Drew Brees

Drew Brees has had a great career, and has really done wonders for the Saints turnaround in the last few years.

After his Super Bowl at the end of the '09 season, he practically became a lock for the Hall of Fame.

Pro Bowls: 1

Super Bowl Wins: 2

Big Ben does not possess the resume of many QBs in front of him, but he does have two Super Bowl titles to his credit.

By the time that his career is over, he will likely go down as one of the most clutch QBs in Steelers history.

Adrian Peterson

Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson is arguably the best back in the league right now.

His rare speed and power combination at the RB position will likely land him a spot in Canton in the future.

Devin Hester

It's hard to find a return man in the NFL that is more electrifying than Devin Hester in today's game.

He is the all-time leader in kick/punt returns for TDs with 17 for his career, which is already good enough to land him a spot in the Hall.

Tony Gonzalez

7 of 20

Career Stats

REC: 1,143

REC YDS: 13,289

REC TD: 95

Pro Bowls: 11

Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez is hands down the best player to ever play his position in league history.

He's an excellent blocker and receiver, which is easily enough to qualify as a Hall of Fame tight end in this sport.

Larry Fitzgerald

8 of 20

Career Stats

REC: 678

REC YDS: 9,361

REC TD: 72

Pro Bowls: 5

Larry Fitzgerald has been one of the most consistent wide receivers in the league over the past eight seasons.

With 1,157 yards and seven touchdowns in just 14 games this season, it appears there are still many great seasons to come for the former University of Pittsburgh star.

Antonio Gates

9 of 20

Career Stats

REC: 584

REC YDS: 7,637

REC TD: 75

Pro Bowls: 7

While many people consider Tony Gonzalez as the best TE of all time, San Diego's Antonio Gates isn't too far behind.

The longtime Chargers tight end has gone to the Pro Bowl in seven straight seasons and is one of the biggest reasons why his team always has one of the better passing attacks in the NFL in recent years.

Troy Polamalu

10 of 20

Career Stats

TACK: 591

PD: 81

INT: 28

Pro Bowls: 6

Super Bowl Wins: 2

Along with another member on this list, Ed Reed, Polamalu has helped redefine the safety position during his career.

He's known for his solid run defense, but also for his great athleticism out of the Pittsburgh secondary.

LaDainian Tomlinson

RUSH ATT: 3,158

YPC AVG: 4.3

REC: 614

REC YDS: 4,713

REC TD: 17

Pro Bowls: 5

LT has had one of the most complete career for a RB that the league has seen in quite some time.

Tomlinson is also one of the only backs ever to rush for over 1,600 yards in three different seasons.

Ray Lewis

12 of 20

Career Stats

TACK: 1,262

SACK: 40.5

PD: 65

INT: 31

FF: 16

Pro Bowls: 12

Super Bowl Wins: 1

Lewis is definitely in the discussion for being one of the best inside linebackers of all time.

Even though his play has started to deteriorate some, he is still one of the hardest hitters that has ever played his position on the gridiron.

Ed Reed

13 of 20

Career Stats

TACK: 541

PD: 94

INT: 57

Pro Bowls: 7

Reed is a ball-hawking safety that knows what to do once he gets the pigskin in his hands in the open field.

The ex-Miami Hurricane can also lay the wood, as he has done to a great many opponents throughout his brilliant career.

Jared Allen

14 of 20

Career Stats

TACK: 449

SACK: 100.5

INT: 5

FF: 26

Pro Bowls: 3

Jared Allen has one of the best motors of any defensive end in league history.

He has a knack for getting after the opposing QB, as evidenced by his 100-plus career sacks less than eight seasons in the league.

DeMarcus Ware

15 of 20

Career Stats

TACK: 469

SACK: 96

FF: 27

Pro Bowls: 5

The Cowboys' star OLB might just be the best pass-rushing threat Dallas has ever had.

His 96 sacks in seven-plus seasons puts him on pace to be among the all-time NFL greats in that category by the time his career is finished.

Brian Urlacher

16 of 20

Career Stats

TACK: 1,148

SACK: 41.5

PD: 71

INT: 21

Pro Bowls: 7

When you talk about the most versatile players at their position, Chicago Bears veteran ILB Brian Urlacher certainly has to be in the discussion.

The future Hall of Famer has been the heart of a strong Bears defensive attack for over a decade now.

Darrelle Revis

17 of 20

Career Stats

TACK: 280

PD: 88

INT: 18

Pro Bowls: 3

Revis is easily the biggest stretch to make the Hall of Fame out of any of the players on this list, but I feel that I needed to include him on here.

When he is on the field, "Revis Island" is completely in effect, meaning he has completely shut down nearly every opposing wideout that has ventured to his island during Revis's four-plus years in the league.

Champ Bailey

18 of 20

Career Stats

TACK: 699

PD: 126

INT: 50

Pro Bowls: 10

Other than Darrelle Revis, Denver's Champ Bailey is the best cover corner in the NFL.

At 33 years old, he hasn't lost a step, and will one day be making another step into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Charles Woodson

19 of 20

Career Stats

TACK: 679

SACK: 15.5

PD: 113

INT: 54

DEFENSIVE TD: 11

Pro Bowls: 7

Super Bowl Wins: 1

The former Defensive POY in the NFL has been one of the more steadier cornerbacks in league history.

Throughout Charles Woodson's career, he has had the tendency to make the big plays when his teams have needed it the most.

Shane Lechler

20 of 20

Career Stats

PUNTS: 938

NET YDS: 36,135

NET AVG: 47.5

Oakland's Shane Lechler is arguably the best punter in NFL history.

He ranks first all time in average yards per punt with 47.5, and at 35 years old, he is still amongst the top of the league in several punting categories once again.
