Brodus Clay: Future Superstar or Future Endeavored?

Tony DolemiteDec 22, 2011

I like Brodus Clay; why wouldn't I? He is a throwback to the likes of King Kong Bundy, Big Van Vader and Yokozuna; an intimidating big man with enough potential to be considered for a major push on the Raw roster.

That says a whole lot considering his lack of experience. Getting a push on Raw would be any performer's dream realized. His look alone separates him from the other stars on Raw and SmackDown which also works for him; he isn't a pretty boy cut from the same mold as stars like the Miz and Dolph Ziggler.

There aren't too many athletes like him currently in the business. He is a monster in the making and given enough time could become part of the wave of superstars that carry the company into the future—then again maybe not. If he disappoints then he may be future endeavored.

Unfortunately, his future with the company right now isn't very clear. He has yet to debut on Raw, supposedly because of Twitter posts leaking a major plot point, shooting himself in the foot. He is still in the doghouse and will continue to remain there for who knows how long. The business waits for no one and life goes on.

The WWE may decide not to invest anymore time and money in Clay because they feel he is such a question mark, which is a shame because he is a standout with potential. Potential is a wonderful thing to have when you're an asset. When you're a liability, potential just isn't enough to cut it. WWE has a set of standards and Clay may not make the grade. Cutting their losses now would allow them to move on and focus on other talent.

On the other hand, the WWE may be waiting to introduce Clay in such a way that the wait is worth it. His debut may erase all doubts about how Vince wants to book him for the future. He isn't the first performer to ever end up in the dog house.

Triple H was in the dog house for over a year after the infamous Curtain Call at Madison Square Garden. Fifteen years later and Triple H is now regarded as one of the all-time greats. Though Clay is no Triple H right now doesn't mean that he can't be; he may end up being even bigger then the Game within a few years. All we can do is speculate at this point.

Clay needs to be given a chance. Why waste his potential and continue to punish him because of a simple mistake? Its over with; it's time to move on and let this kid get his opportunity to shine. He would certainly be a change of pace from what we're currently seeing on television.

Imagine Clay vs. Big Show, or Kane or Mark Henry, maybe the Undertaker. Okay, maybe not Undertaker, as his future is still up in the air, but that's a story for another time. The benefits of working with these pros could bring out the best in him. Monster versus monster is always a great scenario. They could also highlight possible flaws that aren't easily fixed.

Clay has a future ahead of him in this business. Whether or not it's with the WWE, however, is questionable. Being in the doghouse can be exactly what he needs to get his act together—he passes this test and he does have a chance. This could make or break him. He may also find himself better off in an up and coming promotion like Ring of Honor, were he can develop and not suffer setbacks so easily.

Believe it or not, even TNA might be a better option right now then the WWE. Whatever happens, Brodus Clay will survive. He will become the stuff that legends are made of. We certainly hope so anyway.
