Ravens vs. Chargers: Baltimore Defense Will Wreak Havoc on SNF

Austin GreenDec 18, 2011

The vicious Baltimore Ravens defense will drive a stake into the heart of San Diego's season on Sunday Night Football.

Led by fiery linebacker Terrell Suggs, the Ravens once again boast one of the league's most fearsome defenses.

They are ranked fourth in opposing passing yards per game (192.3) and have only given up nine passing touchdowns this season, fewest in the NFL.

They also possess one of the league's best run-stopping units. They allow just 85.8 rushing yards per game, and only San Fransisco and Miami have allowed fewer touchdowns on the ground.

As usual, they are also one of the league leaders in turnovers. They have forced 19 fumbles and returned three of them for touchdowns.

Suggs, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, is a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year candidate. The nine-year veteran out of Arizona State has already registered 13 sacks, six forced fumbles and two interceptions on the season.

You can expect him to add to those totals Sunday night, as he squares off against the turnover-prone Phillip Rivers.

There are still three games to go, but Rivers has already set career highs in interceptions (17) and fumbles (seven).

Tonight, Suggs and Haloti Ngata will wreak havoc in the backfield while the always-dangerous Ed Reed lurks in the secondary.

The 6-7 Chargers desperately need a win to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Unfortunately, the Ravens' D won't allow it.

Baltimore is on a four-game winning streak and has held their last three opponents to 10 points or less. I don't see them slowing down now.

Prediction: Baltimore 27, San Diego 13
