John Cena WWE: Keeping Cena off TLC PPV an Ingenious Move

Adam WellsDec 18, 2011

The idea of WWE running a Pay-Per-View event without a healthy John Cena is almost too nonsensical to comprehend, but that is the situation we are in with TLC on Sunday night. The biggest star in the company is not booked in a match, and that is a brilliant move for both him and the company.

Let's face it, a big reason that everyone hates Cena right now is because he wrestles in every main event of every pay-per-view every single year. Fans want to see change, or better yet, they want to see some diversity at the top.

Cena is always going to be the biggest star on any show that he is on—unless The Rock or Stone Cold shows up—but that does not mean he has to wrestle for the championship all year.

By keeping him off TLC, WWE is not only giving new stars a chance to shine on a major event, but they will actually make Cena more appealing to the fans.

I am not saying that all fans are going to magically start cheering for him again just because he isn't wrestling on the show, but absence does make the heart grow fonder.

Of course, all of this could be a moot point if he is thrown into an impromptu match, but he is telling everyone that he is not going to be on the show.

While all of that could just be posturing, I tend to believe him because he is battling some nagging injuries, and WWE needs to keep him healthy—at least through WrestleMania.

Plus, the idea of putting the company's biggest star in a match on a Pay-Per-View with no build is completely stupid. People have already bought the show, so any extra buys that you might have gotten by adding him in a match before the show won't be there.

The fans need a break from Cena, and vice versa. He is going to be an important part of what happens in 2012, so giving him time off to recharge his batteries makes perfect sense.

It is not often that we compliment WWE for making smart decisions, but keeping Cena off the TLC Pay-Per-View is a brilliant move that should not be questioned by the fans.
