Drew Brees: Making a Case for the New Orleans Saints QB as NFL MVP
We all know that Aaron Rodgers has dominated any and all NFL MVP talk this season, and with good reason. Rodgers may be having the best season by a quarterback in league history.
That said, what Drew Brees is doing for the New Orleans Saints is almost as impressive as what Rodgers has done for the undefeated Green Bay Packers.
Brees currently leads the NFL's top offense, as the Saints are averaging 447.8 yards per game (which is 23.4 yards per game more than the second-place New England Patriots). He is also in charge of a unit that leads the NFL in passing yards (325.2 yards per game) and boasts the NFL's eighth-best rushing attack (122.6 yards per game).

Individually, Brees has also had an outstanding season for the 10-3 Saints.
He has completed 385 of 543 passes, good for an NFL-high 4,368 yards, with 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Brees also leads the league in completions, attempts and completion percentage (70.9). His quarterback rating of 105.9 sits in third place, just behind that of Tom Brady (106.0) and a long way behind that of Rodgers (123.3).
Again, Rodgers is the clear leader in the MVP race at this point, but no one should overlook the season Brees is having. If something drastic happens to the Packers and their quarterback over the last few weeks of the season, there is no reason Brees couldn't jump up into contention for the award.
In any other season, what Brees has done in New Orleans would be worthy of the NFL's MVP award.
While he may not win it this season, Brees is certainly worthy of consideration.
