NFL Playoffs: 5 Matchups and Scenarios We Are Dying to See

Ryan AlfieriDec 18, 2011

This year's NFL season has had so many story lines that the Packers possible shot at a perfect season is not even the top story (thanks to a certain quarterback on the Denver Broncos).

This can only mean that this year's playoffs are dripping with juicy games and matchups that are magnified in the playoffs. Whether its a renewed divisional rivalry or a team looking for revenge from an earlier loss, whoever gets the last laugh in the postseason has the rest of the year for bragging rights.

Ravens vs. Steelers

1 of 5

The rivalry between the Ravens and Steelers has only gotten more popular this year, as the Ravens have swept the Steelers in the series.

However, should this game take place, the Steelers will have a chance once again have the last laugh and knock their rivals out of the playoffs.

Or could Joe Flacco excersise his playoff demons once and for all? Against his biggest rivals, nonetheless?

Should this game take place, it will probably be in Baltimore, which is a luxury the Ravens have not enjoyed in quite some time.

Saints vs. Packers

2 of 5

After the season's most electric game on opening night, we were all left craving for more. It was the closest the Packers have come to losing this season before the Giants game, and it would certainly be interesting if the Saints have tuned their game enough to beat the Packers on the road, and in cold weather.

Both defenses have not been up to par this season, so this game would be an shootout. If there's one formula to drive ratings, it is a matchup between two of this year's best quarterbacks for the right to go to the Super Bowl.

Broncos vs. Anybody

I still have my doubts as to whether the Broncos can still make the playoffs, but if Tebow can win a playoff game, it will send Tebowmania into a frenzy the likes of which we have never seen. Can you imagine if Tebow can go into Baltimore and knock off the Ravens?

Given what we have seen over the past month from this guy, it sure is possible.

Jets vs. Ravens

4 of 5

The Ravens drubbed the Jets earlier in the season, but the Jets did not have their best offensive player, Nick Mangold, and the Ravens feasted on a terrible offensive line performance.

Hidden in that game was a nearly pathetic performance by the Baltimore offense, in which the Jets scored more points on special teams and defense than with their regular offense.

Either way, it would be interesting to see how much different the result would be if the Jets had their best offensive player with them. And, of course, the story line of Rex Ryan playing against his old team just adds a layer of drama.

Giants vs. Packers in the NFC Championship

5 of 5

This game would be all-too reminiscent of 2007, in which the Giants upset the Packers at Lambeau field and ended Brett Favre's career as a Packer.

How interesting would it be if they had the same opportunity to do it to Favre's successor—and ruin a perfect season in the process (which they also did in 2007)?

Also, just like the 2007 season, the Giants lost to an undefeated team, Green Bay, in the regular season (by the exact same score), which actually propelled them deep into the playoffs because of how well they played.
