Real Madrid FC: Ranking Los Blancos' Top Potential Transfer Targets

Nicholas GossDec 17, 2011

Real Madrid are one of the biggest spenders in world football, and the January transfer window will be an opportunity for the La Liga club to strengthen its side for the league title race and Champions League campaign.

Los Blancos may target young stars like Neymar of Santos, or maybe make a shock move for an aging talent such as Chelsea's Frank Lampard.

Let's look at four top potential transfer targets for Real Madrid in the upcoming transfer window.

Real Betis V Real Madrid - Laliga Ea Sports

1. Neymar

Brazilian 19-year-old Neymar has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for months, but he signed a new contract with Santos in November.

Neymar has amazing dribbling skills and has exceptional pace. He's also a deadly finisher that has proven to be a top goal scorer despite his age.

He has the potential to be an all-time great player, and Neymar's type of talent does not come around too often.

Madrid must look at acquiring him in January, and if they are unsuccessful, then a summer bid should be made as well.

2. Eden Harzard

The Belgian winger has been amazing with Ligue 1 side Lille and has proven to be a legitimate goal scorer at just 20 years of age.

Hazard has blazing speed and is a very accurate shooter who is patient with the ball at his feet even with defenders all around him.

He's also an underrated playmaker who has good vision and can create quality scoring opportunities for his teammates. Hazard has scored six goals with seven assists this season for Lille during league play.

To pry him from Lille could cost over 40 million euros, but for a supreme talent as young as Hazard, spending that much money would be worth it for a player who could shine in the Spanish capital for a decade.

3. Frank Lampard

Current Real Madrid manager and former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho may look to make a surprise bid for Frank Lampard, who has been riding the bench more than he would like lately.

The Chelsea legend has not been a fixture in Andre Villas-Boas' starting lineups, and it's possible his tenure at Stamford Bridge could be nearing its end.

Lampard would give Los Blancos a reliable presence in the midfield who is very intelligent and still has quality passing skills.

A bid for Lampard likely would not exceed 15 million euros, so it would not be a massively expensive move for Madrid to make.

4. Yann M'Vila

Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila is becoming a top player and has performed very well in Ligue 1 and for France at the international level.

He is a regular starter in Laurent Blanc's French side and is an imposing midfielder with great strength and good passing skills.

M'Vila would be a fantastic replacement for Madrid star Xabi Alonso when he retires, and the Frenchman would be perfect in a defensive midfielder role for Los Blancos.

M'Vila is a fundamentally strong player who has a great all-around ability that would offer Madrid a lot of skill in the midfield, and he should be a target of Mourinho's this January or in the summer, for sure.
