Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Will Thierry Henry Return to the Gunners?

Robert PaceDec 17, 2011

With Arsenal looking to make a run at the top of the EPL table, rumours are circulating today that the Gunners may attempt to bring back Thierry Henry

According to Soccer News, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted at the possibility of signing the former Arsenal striker, who last played with the Gunners in the 2006-07 season.

Henry, 34, has been training will Arsenal since finishing his MLS season in the United States with the New York Red Bulls, with whom he has played for two seasons.

“You want to speak of Henry," Wenger said to reporters. "And I can understand that, but at the moment he just practises with us.”

While Wenger claims that he hasn't explored the possibility of signing Henry, the Gunners could use a striker to compliment Robin Van Persie, who has scored half of Arsenal's 30 Premier League goals.

“I do not always master all my thoughts," Wenger added. "So it has to come through my brain at some stage, but I haven’t been concrete on the case."

While Henry's fitness would probably require some refining if he were to come back to the Premier League, Wenger believes that the Frenchman still has the potential to play in the EPL.

“Is he still good enough to play in the Premier League? Yes,” Wenger concluded.

Henry, who once scored 30 goals in the EPL for Arsenal in 2003-04, scored 15 goals for the Red Bulls this year.

The former Arsenal striker told Reuters earlier this year in March that he would love to return to the Gunners one day.

"I hope one day I would love to go back there," Henry said. "I love that club and I just want to give as much as possible to this club, after what that club gave me."

"I left Arsenal but you never really leave Arsenal," he added. "Whenever I go back I feel like I have gone home, it’s a big family and I became a fan."
