View from Kingsmeadow, Volume 65: AFC Wimbledon's Losing Streak Continues

Jo-Ryan SalazarDec 17, 2011

It has been nothing short of a miserable season for Terry Brown's AFC Wimbledon, who were looking to get back on the winning track when they traveled to face Rotherham United in Football League Two play.

"We are travelling up early today, hoping to miss most of the bad weather and giving ourselves every opportunity to turn in a solid performance at Rotherham," Brown told reporters. "It is important that we bring something back from Rotherham and set ourselves up for what will be a very testing and exciting Christmas period."

Last season, Rotherham finished ninth on the Football League Two table with a 17-14-15 record.

"Rotherham's manager, Andy Scott, has a great track record and in particular was very successful at Brentford where he took them to promotion from League 2 at his first attempt," Brown added. "He builds winning teams and has a very strong squad, with the very impressive striking trio of Alex Revell, top scorer Lewis Grabban and Brett Williams, who we watched when he was at Eastleigh but who is now on loan from Reading. They will be a handful.

"Saturday is a real challenge but we know that on our day we will be a handful for them and we will, as always, be looking for three points, not one."

Sam Wood scored the go-ahead goal for Rotherham in the 78th minute of play to give the home side a 1-0 victory.

With the defeat, AFC Wimbledon drop to 7-9-5 and are staring down the face of relegation as they ride a three-game losin streak. Something needs to be done in terms of bringing in results, or Terry Brown could see his hot seat get too unbearable by spring.

Up next for the Dons is a Boxing Day match with Oxford United. Kickoff at Kingsmeadow is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 26 at 4:15 a.m. PT/7:15 a.m. ET.
