Tennessee Football Recruiting 2012: Volunteers' Top 5 Uncommitted Targets

Randy ChambersDec 17, 2011

With the regular season coming to a close and only bowl games left to play, these next few months will be focused on recruiting. Where will some of the top players in the country end up, and which teams will fill their needs with future stars?

The Tennessee Volunteers already have one of the most talented teams in the country and one of the top recruiting classes this year. But you can always do better and want better for your program.

With a ton of talented players already committed, here are the top five players that are also considering becoming a Volunteer.

WR Cordarrelle Patterson

1 of 5

The Volunteers already have commitments from four wide receivers but adding Cordarrelle Patterson would really put them over the top.

At 6'4", 202 pounds, he would provide Tennessee with a big strong target to throw the ball to. He's a very physical receiver, with great hands and outstanding leaping ability. He's a tough cover for any cornerback and adding him to the roster could complete one of the most talented wide receiving corps in the country.

He had his visit with Tennessee already, and they're in competition with Georgia, Mississippi and Auburn.

S Jordan Diggs

2 of 5

The Volunteers have a commitment from safety LaDarrell McNeil but it's only a verbal, so it wouldn't hurt if they're able to seal the deal with Jordan Diggs.

Diggs is an extremely physical player and makes you feel the pain when he hits you. He has a motor that never stops and great instincts. Wherever he ends up, expect him to make an impact on the team early in the season.

He made an official visit to Tennessee a little over a month ago, and they have a great shot at landing the physical safety. Along with South Carolina, Nebraska, Vanderbilt and Michigan State.

DE Jordan Jenkins

3 of 5

Jordan Jenkins is a very raw but a talented player with a lot of upside. At 6'3", 246 pounds, he is extremely fast and can get to the quarterback in a hurry. Very few players in the country are as explosive as this guy is.

Jenkins is expected to make his decision sometime in January, and the Volunteers are still very much in the mix. Along with Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Georgia.

QB Gunner Kiel

4 of 5

The Volunteers already have a commitment from Nathan Peterman but no quarterback in the country is as polished as Gunner Kiel.

The 5-star recruit may lack great arm strength, but he has everything else you look for, including the size at 6'4", 200 pounds.

He has solid accuracy and can make plays with his feet when he has to.

Although it may be a long shot for the Volunteers to land him, considering he has shown more interest in other schools like Indiana, LSU and Notre Dame.

DE Noah Spence

5 of 5

Defensive end Noah Spence has an offer from nearly every major program, but if he commits to Tennessee, they'd instantly become a better team. At 6'3", 240 pounds, he is extremely fast, has an excellent motor and is a fantastic athlete.

He finished his junior year with over 100 tackles, 22 sacks and nine forced fumbles.

It looked like Spence was going to go with Penn State but lately the Buckeyes are making a heavy push for him.
