Liverpool FC: Reds Must Add Attacking Talent in January Transfer Window

Nicholas GossDec 16, 2011

Liverpool must consider signing attacking talents such as Fernando Torres, Gonzalo Higuain and Eden Hazard in the January transfer window if they want to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season and secure Champions League qualification next year.

Luis Suarez has had to shoulder too much of the scoring burden this season for the Reds, and they must find another forward who opposing clubs will fear in the final third of the pitch.

Liverpool should also look at finding an attacking midfielder that can create quality scoring opportunities while Steven Gerrard continues to recover from injury.

Let's look at four attacking players Liverpool must consider in the transfer window next month.

1. Fernando Torres

The former Liverpool star left Anfield this past January for £50 million and has been a disaster with Chelsea, and has not been able to find his typical goal-scoring form.

Torres would be more comfortable at Liverpool because the pressure to succeed won't be as high as it is at Stamford Bridge.

Most Reds fans still love Torres and his return could be quite successful since the club has added a lot more quality players since he left last season. Liverpool might be able to buy Torres for around £20 million, which would be a steal.

2. Gonzalo Higuain

With news that Chelsea might offer £30 million for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, Liverpool must consider making a rival bid for the star striker.

With Frenchman Karim Benzema outperforming Higuain this season, Madrid may look to sell the Argentinian in the upcoming transfer window.

Higuain is a deadly finisher in front of goal and has exceptional pace as well. He would add a new dimension to the Liverpool attack, and would surely fit in well with Suarez at striker.

The asking price may be too steep for the Reds, but not considering this move would be a major mistake.

3. Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard is a growing star for Ligue 1 side Lille, and has expressed interest in leaving the French club.

Hazard would be a dynamic presence in the Liverpool attack and has a tremendous combination of accurate finishing, great speed and football intelligence.

The Belgian is a proven goal scorer and has performed very well in Ligue 1 despite his inexperience.

At only 20 years old, Hazard is already a star yet has much room for improvement. The asking price will be incredibly high but he is a star that could lead Liverpool for a decade, and these types of players are unique.

4. Eduardo Vargas

Eduardo Vargas was recently named Chilean footballer of the year, and the 22-year-old is a supremely talented player who has been exceptional for his Universidad de Chile club.

Vargas is a striker who finds the back of the net with regularity, and can change games with his pace and scoring ability.

He still has much room for improvement, but his skill set could really add a lot to the Liverpool attack. For under £20 million, the Reds should seriously consider bringing him to England next month.
