Week 15 Waiver Wire: Last-Second Pickups to Dominate Your Playoff Matchup

Michael DixonDec 16, 2011

Andy Dalton, Jabar Gaffney and the Arizona Cardinals defense are more than just good sleeper plays this week. They are going to bring some of the best numbers for any players at their positions this week, sleeper or otherwise.

The matchups that they are in are perfect for a lot of points. They have all had strong weeks in far tougher matchups in recent weeks.

So, as you are now firmly in the playoffs, don't be afraid to look for these guys on your waiver wire and move them into the starting spot. You won't regret it.

Andy Dalton

There's nothing to not like about this matchup for Dalton. The Rams secondary is pathetic. That's a good place to start.

Dalton has actually managed decent performances against teams like the Steelers, Ravens and Texans. Those games were outdoors, in cold weather, against top secondaries. None of those apply here.

The combination of Jerome Simpson and A.J. Green will be too much to overcome in this one.

Dalton is available in the majority of ESPN leagues. In Week 15 he's one of the top overall quarterback options not named Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady or Drew Brees. If he's available in your league, sign him. More importantly, keep him away from you opponent.

Jabar Gaffney

The Giants secondary is dreadful. It has been beaten up all year and, as a result, has allowed a lot of passing yards all year. The one good thing is that the Giants do get to the quarterback. But from a fantasy perspective, that doesn't do anything to a receiver.

Fred Davis' suspension seems to have helped Gaffney's totals in a big way. A week ago, he caught six passes for 92 yards and a score against New England. We can expect similar numbers this week against the Giants.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals defense has been playing great football in recent weeks. Say what you will about the 49ers and Cowboys, but they are better offensive teams than the Browns. On top of that, the Browns will be without Colt McCoy this week.

Look for the Cardinals to blitz and blitz a lot. Forcing Seneca Wallace to make quick decisions will do wonders for the fantasy totals of the Cardinals defense.

Looking at the amount of leagues the Cardinals are available in, this is a completely under-the-radar play. Still, it's one that will pay dividends.
