Justin Timberlake Will Bring Sexy Back to Callaway Golf

Michael DixonDec 16, 2011

Callaway Golf is welcoming a different side to its product by making Justin Timberlake its creative director. While there's plenty of fun that can be had here, this is a great move for the company.

The move, which was announced here by Fox Sports, links an avid golfer in Timberlake with the company that's consistently one of the top-two manufacturers in all of golf.

Most importantly, Timberlake is not just a P.R. move for Callaway. He has an undeniable passion for the sport. Timberlake owns a golf course in Tennessee, hosts a PGA Tour event (Shriners Hospitals for Children Open) and is a fixture at early season Pro-Am's such as the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and Humana Classic (formerly known as the Bob Hope Classic).

The release cited above quotes Callaway's Jeff Colton as saying the following:

"

Justin is an extremely gifted artist, an avid golfer with a deep passion for Callaway products and his creative energy will serve us well as we connect with the next generation of golfers.

"

The vagueness of the position title Timberlake is taking is what has me intrigued by this hire. The creative director could mean just about anything.

For the growth of the game to a younger audience, this is a brilliant move. Timberlake is more in touch with what young people are interested in. They can use his name and status to market the game, and their product, to a younger audience.

Colton is right. With Timberlake's creativity, there's really no stopping where this can go. Companies like Callaway have a responsibility to not only market their product, but also the entire game. This move is going to help do that.

And of course, you have to think that he'll have something to do with the products Callaway markets.

My Christmas list for next year is already made.
