WWE TLC 2011 Live Stream: 5 Reasons This PPV Is a Must-See Event

Mike ChiariDec 16, 2011

The WWE TLC event will be broadcast on television pay-per-view, as well WWE.com pay-per-view on Sunday. While it isn't one of the company's marquee spectacles, the card looks extremely solid this year for the bridge between Survivor Series and Royal Rumble.

It may be difficult to justify spending the money on what some may view as a throwaway event. However, TLC has a lot of redeeming qualities and should have some intriguing and entertaining moments. It may not go down as an all-time great PPV, but TLC has all the making of a well-above-average card.

Some events can very easily be passed over, but I don't believe TLC qualifies as such. Here are five reasons why TLC will prove to be a must-see PPV.

Booker T's Return to the Ring

1 of 5

For the first time since 2007, Booker T will return to a WWE ring for a meaningful singles match.

Booker returned to the company as a surprise entrant in the most recent Royal Rumble, and he has been a commentator ever since. In recent weeks, however, he has begun to develop a feud with Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes, which exacerbated when Rhodes threw water in his face.

This has resulted in sneak attacks from both sides, and ultimately led to a title match at TLC. I think that the result of this match is pretty obvious—with the up-and-coming Rhodes going over the veteran Booker T, but it doesn't make it any less interesting. Booker is one of the more underrated workers over the past 15 years or so. But if he can still produce, then this will be an excellent match.

Even if Booker's in-ring skills have disintegrated to some degree, he has enough charisma and fan support to make the match a good one.

Rhodes will likely carry the bout for the most part—as he often does—but it will be great to see Booker back wrestling nonetheless. I think it's great that Booker is willing to get back out there in order to push a young star, and it should be fun and nostalgic to see him back in action.

Wade Barrett Becomes a Legitimate Main Eventer

2 of 5

When Wade Barrett burst onto the scene last year as the leader of a group of rookies known as the Nexus, it was obvious he had major star potential. The creative team must have thought so as well: He was immediately thrust into a feud with the face of the company, John Cena.

After Barrett was exiled from the group, however, his career was a bit wayward.

Barrett formed a much less-successful stable known as "The Corre" on SmackDown, but aside from an uneventful Intercontinental Championship reign, little came of it. Over the past couple months, though, Barrett has been built back up from mid-card fodder into a rising star. He has scored victories over the likes of Daniel Bryan, Sheamus and Randy Orton, and is currently in a big feud with "The Viper."

More often than not, Barrett has gotten the better of Orton in this rivalry—he has beaten him in a singles match and in a traditional Survivor Series match. The creative team had a chance to let Cody Rhodes go over Orton a couple months ago, but failed to do so. I doubt they will make the same mistake this time.

Barrett will win the tables match and become a major player in the World Heavyweight Championship picture.

Will Kane Make His Next Move?

3 of 5

After missing several months due to an attack by Mark Henry, Kane returned with a bang this past Monday on RAW as he interrupted a match between Henry and John Cena by chokeslamming Cena.

Kane was also donning new attire, including a new leather mask that hearkens back to his best days as the Big Red Monster.

Kane's motives are unclear at this point, but I have a feeling we will see him in some capacity at TLC. Cena doesn't currently have a match scheduled, so it wouldn't be surprising to see an angle where Kane attacks him again when he comes out to cut a promo.

Kane could also get involved in the World Heavyweight Championship match: Henry put him out of commission and Big Show is his former tag-team partner.

It's very difficult to say whether Kane is a flat-out heel or a tweener at this point, so there might be a bit more clarity after Sunday's event. It truly is amazing how something as simple as adding a mask can get fans excited. It's fair to say that Kane had grown quite stagnant prior to the injury angle, so some type of change was needed.

This seems to fit the bill—it has the vast majority of wrestling fans clamoring to see him make his next appearance.

Zack Ryder's Shining Moment

4 of 5

For the better part of the past year, Zack Ryder has worked hard to outgrow his role as a comedic jobber.

Ryder is currently a major player on RAW, and is often featured multiple times per night despite the fact that he used to go months on end without a single segment. Now, Ryder will face Dolph Ziggler for the United States Championship at TLC.

Ryder truly owes his push to nobody but himself.

It was very obvious that the creative team had no plans for him, so Ryder decided to create a YouTube show called Z! True Long Island Story in order to increase his exposure and develop his character. It has been a resounding success—to say the least—and it wouldn't be a stretch to call Ryder the most over wrestler in the entire company.

Right now Ryder is at the height of his popularity, so the time is now to give him a title. Ryder has been engaged in a highly entertaining feud with the ultra-talented Ziggler over the past couple months, and this is his final chance to secure the US title.

It appears as though Ziggler is ready to move on to the main-event scene, and the WWE needs to strike while the iron is hot with Ryder. I believe Sunday will mark the culmination of a long and arduous journey for Ryder as he captures the United States Championship.

CM Punk vs. The Miz vs. Alberto Del Rio TLC Match for WWE Championship

5 of 5

The name of the PPV is TLC after all, so it stands to reason that the biggest draw will be the triple-threat tables, ladders and chairs match for the WWE Championship between CM Punk and challengers The Miz and Alberto Del Rio.

All three men are great personalities and can perform in the ring as well, so this should certainly be the match of the night in terms of entertainment value.

I do think that it is pretty clear that Punk will retain, but that shouldn't take away from the enjoyment of the match. Punk is likely to face some adversity with Miz and Del Rio double teaming him in the early going, but that alliance will quickly dissolve when one of them goes for the title.

This will allow for the all-out carnage that TLC matches are so well known for.

Punk's popularity has reached a fever pitch at this point, and it seems like half of the arena is wearing his "Best in the World" T-shirt on any given night. With that in mind, it is sure to be a very pro-Punk crowd and a fun atmosphere overall.

Punk has proven incapable of putting on a bad match since the summer, and I wouldn't expect this to be any different. Miz and Del Rio should both acquit themselves quite well, but this night will belong to Punk.
