Knicks Rumors: Why Baron Davis Needs To Choose New York over the LA Lakers

Kelly ScalettaDec 16, 2011

Baron Davis has been aware of the possibility that he would be amnestied for some time. As a result, he's been "batting his eyes at the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks since the summer."

Should it come down to a choice between the two, Davis should choose New York over the Lakers.

The Knicks offer one thing right now that the Lakers don't, and that's the right trajectory. The Knicks are on their way up, and the Lakers are on their way down.

You could argue that right now the Lakers are a better and more complete team. You could even argue that Davis might have a better chance on paper of winning a championship there. The problem is that only exists on paper.

Jim Buss is doing his level best to "Isiah Thoams" the Lakers. He shipped out Lamar Odom for nothing. He has Kobe Bryant furious. He has Pau Gasol feeling wounded

The Lakers are looking like Rome the day before Alaric I was standing outside the gates. The empire has stood for a long time, but there's the day it ends.

Meanwhile on the other coast, the Knicks are looking more and more like a team that is ready to transcend to glory years. They've added what can be argued to be the best team in the NBA at the 3, 4 and 5.

While in Los Angeles it's surrounded by negative feeling, the Knicks are filled with hope and optimism and that makes a difference in an NBA team.

As strong as the Knicks are in their frontcourt, they have a woeful situation in their backcourt, and Davis, with the the two huge provisions that he a) gets healthy and b) clears amnesty waivers, would be the perfect point guard to add to the Knicks.

He would be the facilitator with handles what a Mike D' Antoni system demands. While I understand that Knicks fans, as eternally optimistic they are, want to believe that Toney Douglas is an answer there, the problem is that he had a passer rating of 6.1 last year. That's just not enough to get things done.

The best answer for the Knicks, and the best answer for Davis, is another New York wedding which has a point guard as the groom, not the best man making an empty toast.
