NBA Rumors: Denver Nuggets Optimistic They Can Re-Sign Arron Afflalo
The Denver Nuggets were having a fairly quiet offseason until a couple of days ago. In the last few days, they've acquired Corey Brewer and Rudy Fernandez in a trade with Dallas. Then they inked Nene to a five-year deal. Now they are honing in on securing the services of starting shooting guard Arron Afflalo.
According to The Denver Post, "The Nuggets remain 'very optimistic' they will re-sign Arron Afflalo, team executive Masai Ujiri said Thursday."
Afflalo, last year's starting shooting guard, has become a fan favorite in Denver. His defensive tenacity and shooting ability make him one of the more desired shooting guards available on the free agent market, though the impression that Denver was going to match any offers has kept teams away.
After seeing two free agents lost until, at minimum, March, due to JR Smith and Wilson Chandler signing in China, the Nuggets were short on wings, and adding, as LeBron James would say, not one, not two, but three, in the last week has met a serious need for the Nuggets.
The Nuggets also signed veteran forward Michael Ruffin.
Denver has essentially changed a large chunk of their team twice in the last six months. It's a bit of a mystery as to how well they will perform this year with all the changes.
Last year, after the trade of Carmelo Anthony though, the team actually played better.
