Chicago Bulls Rumors: Bulls Would Be Wise to Back Away from Dwight Howard
There is a fine line between trying to improve the team and becoming just plain greedy. The Bulls are fine as they are and will contend without any major moves.
Now with the biggest name in guards gone to the LA Clippers, the biggest name in centers will remain the elephant in every last NBA board room.
The question of Dwight Howard has to be addressed, even if general manager Otis Smith isn't fielding trade offers at the moment.
Kyle Hightower reports for Yahoo! Sports that not much has changed in Orlando, save for the fact that any trade for Dwight Howard will not be accepted. Howard still very much wants out of town but will accept that he is with the Magic, and will make the best of it.
This brings us back to a report filed by Nick Friedell of ESPN back on December 11th. It stated very clearly that the Bulls would be players for Dwight Howard.
"The Bulls believe they have enough young pieces to complete a trade for the perennial All-Star. They will have conversations in the coming days with Magic GM Otis Smith about putting together a package for the talented big man.
"
Since that time we have seen the Lakers and Nets try for Howard only to be turned away. The Bulls have just as stocked a cupboard as those teams and could be players for Howard once the sweepstakes opens again, and it will open.
It's important to note that Howard will be traded before the year is out. If he isn't, it would mean the Magic are rolling over teams with ease, making Howard confident he can win in Orlando. Or they will have traded for another star.
Both scenarios are unlikely, which means you can expect the Magic to start entertaining trade offers when they think the market benefits the sellers.
It's at that point that the Bulls should practice level-headed business. This teams is built to win as is. Nabbing Richard Hamilton off the free-agent heap will only make them stronger.
Another year will see Derrick Rose ready to take this team to the next level. The last thing they need is to gut this team for one superstar that may or may not make a difference.
Howard is nice, but this team as currently formed is better.
