LSU vs. Alabama Rematch: Why Tigers Won't Be Lucky Second Time Around
The BCS Championship game will be engaging, hard-hitting and controversial as LSU fails to prove they are the better team in the sequel to the "Game of the Century."
If you were looking for new and inventive ways for the BCS to fail with fans, this would be one of them. There is no doubt that LSU and Alabama are the two best teams in the country.
In a sport that maintains that every loss counts, the runner-up may have an advantage of sorts. LSU is heading into certain doom as they try to prove, in what will be a coin-flip of a game, that they are a more deserving team than Alabama.
Those of us who saw the 9-6 game on November 5th, realized two things. For one, defense may win championships, but it makes for some pretty crummy television.
Most of the interesting parts of the game are never shown. The best athletes locking up the receivers in the secondary is absent, and all we get to see is a couple of quarterbacks scramble for a few seconds before they are sacked.
The second point is that these two teams are nearly identical in talent and team ethos. They both have defenses that could keep some NFL teams at bay. Running the ball will also be a priority in the title game, as possession and time management remain a premium.
In a game that may end 3-0, you are going to want the ball for a good amount of that time. Side note: I really do not look forward to watching this game.
For Alabama, it's time to chalk up that loss to a dry run for bigger and better things. The worry and pressure remains solely on LSU.
The Crimson Tide understand that they let the November 5th game get away from them. They missed field goals and had multiple fourth-quarter miscues that could have salvaged the game.
Alabama had the momentum in that game and gave it away to foolish errors. This time around will be different. LSU will not be saved by badly placed field goals.
This game will go to Alabama, and then the real fun starts. LSU will dig in their heels and mope that they already beat the champions. They better start the boo-hoo session now, because the downfall of the perfect team is a foregone conclusion.
