Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: D12's Waffling Will Open Door for More Suitors

Brian MaziqueDec 15, 2011

Dwight Howard has to feel like the kid whose friend got the new toy they both wanted before he did. Watching Chris Paul land in LA, through it was laborious, almost certainly has to press the big man's buttons a bit.

He reiterated today to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel that his trade request still stands. Howard seemed perturbed by the interview, and at the reporter's notion that he has been going back and forth with his decision. Honestly, it appears he has been a 6'10" Eggo waffle on this entire scenario.

If you want out, stop making it seem as though you are so torn. If he does leave, via trade or free agency, it will only make the hate he obviously fears worse.

What his indecisiveness will produce is more suitors, especially if this drags on to the trade deadline. At that point, teams will get a better feel for the rosters they have currently. Some teams will evaluate their current placement in the standings and see Howard's acquisition as one that will vault them over the top.

The Magic may be able to play on the desperation of other teams. At that point, it is possible Howard could expand his previously short list of teams he is willing to sign a contract extension with.

With Paul already a Clipper, even if Howard lands with the Nets or the Lakers, the players each would have to give up to acquire him would leave the team void of the pieces to win a NBA title.

Kobe Bryant, Howard and what equates to a bunch of guys is probably not enough, while Deron Williams, Howard and a bunch of guys is certainly not enough.

In this case, Howard would either have to wait on free agency, or open his mind to other teams. He had mentioned Dallas, but I don't see the young players available to pull that off.

The Magic would be better off taking their chances in free agency than taking a package that includes Jason Terry, Jason Kidd and a boatload of low first-round draft picks.

I'm betting other teams surface in the next week or around the trade deadline.
