Landon Donovan: Galaxy Star Returns to Premier League To Spark Everton's Attack

Los Angeles Galaxy star Landon Donovan is returning to the English Premier League, and the timing couldn't be any better for Everton.

Donovan featured in 10 matches for the Toffees in 2010, putting through two goals during his time at Goodison Park.

Everton boss David Moyes needs all the production he can get at this point. His side currently sits 12th in the EPL, with just 16 points and 15 goals in 15 matches thus far. The fact that central defender Phil Jagielka is Everton's second-leading scorer doesn't speak well of the club's attack this season.

Nor does the fact that Apostolos Vellios, their leading scorer, has but three goals of his own.

The Toffees finished eighth in the EPL table and reached the Round of 32 in the UEFA Europa League last time Donovan played on Merseyside. This time around, Donovan with be charged with the task of enlivening Everton's attack while keeping the club out of the relegation zone.

He certainly won't mind playing alongside Team USA 'mate and goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Chances are, though, that Everton won't move much closer to Europa League qualification even with Donovan around. That's no knock against Donovan, of course, but rather the result of him having, at most, eight to 10 matches to play with the School of Science.

Still, Donovan's better than just about anyone Everton has on the attack—especially after they let Mikel Arteta move to Arsenal—and will at least bring some excitement to the long-suffering supporters at Goodison Park.

However brief that respite from complete moribundity may be.
