NFL Week 15 Predictions: Projecting the Week's Top QB Performances

Andrea HangstDec 15, 2011

With three quarterbacks on pace to break Dan Marino's single-season passing yardage record, it's easy to say that there are going to be some impressive performances in the air this week.

In the following slides, we examine these three quarterbacks—plus another—who are primed to be the top passers of Week 15.

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints (at Minnesota Vikings)

1 of 4

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is having the best year of any quarterback in the league.

He's the most likely to beat Dan Marino's single-season passing record, he's the only passer who can rival what the Green Bay Packers' Aaron Rodgers is accomplishing and, this weekend, he's going to throw for at least 350 yards against the dismal Minnesota Vikings defense.

So far this year, Brees has completed 70.9 percent of his passes (surpassing Rodgers) for 4,368 yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

He's averaging 336 passing yards per game and is having no trouble doing so on a consistent basis, thanks to the reliable cadre of receivers around him, led by tight end Jimmy Graham.

The Vikings defense is giving up nearly 250 yards in the air per game. For an elite quarterback like Brees, this means he should easily put up 350 or more yards and score at least three touchdowns.

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers (at Kansas City Chiefs)

2 of 4

Second to the Saints' Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers is having himself quite the season as well. At the helm of the 13-0 Packers, Rodgers has thrown for 4,125 yards, scored 39 passing touchdowns and thrown just six interceptions.

He's the main reason why the defending Super Bowl champions seem invincible, and he's only going to add to that mythology this week when the Packers take on the floundering Kansas City Chiefs, a team that has been outscored 142-37 in their last six games.

Rodgers, like Brees, benefits from a glut of talented receivers able to reliably catch his passes. Of course, Rodgers' accuracy also has a lot to do with it. Considering the state of the Chiefs' secondary, expect Rodgers to meet or surpass his 317 yards-per-game average this week and throw three or four touchdowns.

Tom Brady, New England Patriots (at Denver Broncos)

3 of 4

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is having an even better year than Aaron Rodgers, but because his team isn't undefeated (and because he's not Tim Tebow), he's not getting much attention this season.

Brady has thrown for 4,273 yards, 33 touchdowns and 11 interceptions so far this season and is averaging nearly 329 passing yards per game. He's thrown multiple touchdowns in every game save one, and he should do more of the same old, same old this week as his team battles the surging Denver Broncos.

The Broncos defense has improved in recent weeks but is still giving up 232.9 passing yards per game, on average, despite holding opponents to fewer than 15 points in four of their last six games. There's little chance they'll hold Brady's Patriots to such a low score this week, when Brady will likely throw for well over 300 yards and at least two touchdowns.

Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys (at Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

4 of 4

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is having his best season in two years, throwing for 3,646 yards in the first 14 weeks of the season. He's scored 26 passing touchdowns while throwing just nine interceptions in the process, is averaging 280.5 yards per game and has five games of 300 yards or more.

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers giving up nearly 250 passing yards per game, Romo should perform well in his Saturday night contest and help the Cowboys along in their quest to reach the playoffs.

It's not out of the question to think that Romo will throw for 300 yards or more against the struggling Buccaneers this week. At least a single touchdown is in his future as well.
