Amir Khan Has "No Chance" Against Floyd Mayweather

Nedu ObiDec 15, 2011

Amir Khan, who recently lost both his WBA and IBF world light welterweight titles to Lamont Peterson, has been a branded a “glorified amateur” by Jeff Mayweather, uncle of WBC welterweight champion and pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather.

Speaking to the Examiner.com Jeff put a verbal clinic on the young Bolton prodigy.

“He fights just like an amateur. I've never been taken aback by him,” he said.

Prior to the bout, “King” Khan had anticipated a move up to the 147-lb. division whilst also setting his sights on a possible mega-fight with “Money May” sometime in 2012.

Be that as it may, any hopes of now vying for top honors against the five-division world champion went up in smoke after his controversial loss to Peterson.

Needless to say, Jeff said Khan “wouldn't have a chance against Floyd.”

“He's a guy that has fast hands, and that's it," he said of Khan. "There's nothing special about him other than his hand speed.”

Jeff also alluded to the fact Khan could contend with the other welterweights out there, but was adamant that a fight against Money would be a whole different ball game.

“The thing is...when you start talking about Floyd, then you're starting to talk about something completely different,” he said.

And if that wasn’t enough for the recently dethroned champion, Money’s father, Floyd Mayweather, Sr., added his own brand of acidic comments, taking a swipe at Khan as well as his trainer Freddie Roach, for his charge's defensive frailties—especially his jab, or lack thereof.

“Amir Khan is tall for nothing. He has no jab. How a man that tall fighting at 140 pounds don't have a jab?” Floyd Sr. told Fight Hype.

“His trainer (Roach) don't know how to teach a jab. Name me one of Freddie Roach's fighters that have a jab or defense,” he said.

Mayweather Sr. also claimed that Khan’s technique of fighting was akin to the style of WBO welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao.

“Freddie Roach ain't teaching them (expletive). Look at how Khan fights, he's tall as hell for the division and don't even know what a jab is,” Mayweather Sr. said.
