FC Barcelona: Forward David Villa Breaks Leg

News from Sky Sports News channel in England states that Barcelona striker David Villa has suffered a broken leg.

The Press Association have also issued a statement. The Spanish forward has broken his shinbone and was carried off just before halftime. Barcelona are currently playing in the semifinals of the FIFA Club World Cup against Al Sadd.

Barcelona have issued the following statement from their website, fcbarcelona, "David Villa has fractured his left tibia while making a run to the goal. He has been taken to Yokohama Rosai Hospital for further tests."

David Villa has been in the media of late after recent speculations that his future at Barcelona is coming to an end. The Spanish striker has not been a regular in the side with Alexis Sanchez being preferred as a starting striker.

But despite the reports, Pep Guardiola was quick to dismiss all rumours. The Guardian reported how swift Guardiola was in his response to the speculation.

"Marca lie. I have not spoken to David after the last match in Madrid, but all of the players are in my plans.

"I am the one who comes up with 25 different lineups during the season because I feel that is the best thing to do. Most of the players that are here now will continue for the rest of this season and the next," said the Barcelona manager. 

After a tough start to the season, this serious injury will add to the player's misery. Villa will surely face a long lay off and could potentially lose his place in the Spanish team ahead of Euro 2012.
