Fantasy Football 2011: Why Is Tim Tebow Not on Your Team for the Playoffs?

Derek EstesDec 16, 2011

You can win your fantasy football league with Tim Tebow. Sounds crazy, doesn't it?

Most fantasy football playoffs start this weekend, and much like in the real NFL playoffs, your record means nothing and close counts only in horseshoes and hand grenades.

So what are you going to do to get that essential edge for your team? The NFL suffered a rash of quarterback injuries in recent weeks. Owners long since jettisoned Matt Cassel, but losing Matt Schaub and Jay Cutler likely brought about some serious waiver-wire hunting.

Then there's the long list of underachievers that cuts the pool even further. Michael Vick hasn't performed like expected all season, and injuries make him an even riskier start. Ryan Fitzpatrick fizzled out after a strong showing earlier in the year.

So why not Tim Tebow? Tebow's only owned in 71 percent of leagues on Yahoo.com, but ranks 11th in points per game the last four weeks among current starters. Ben Roethlisberger ranks 14th with 96 percent ownership, and his recent injury should add another party who could find a roster upgrade in Tebow.

The Broncos also face a number of positive matchups headed into the end of the season. The New England Patriots can score at will, but their porous pass defense should create opportunities for Denver to move the ball in the air. Plus, they'll need to operate in a fourth-quarter offense most of the game, which is when Tebow does his best work.

After the Patriots, Denver ends the season with Buffalo and Kansas City. Neither team has much to brag about at this point, while the Broncos should be looking to seal a playoff appearance of their own.

And should Denver find themselves in a blowout against either team, Tebow will just run the ball more. Either way, fantasy owners should keep gaining points with Tebow starting.

Now, this no reason to bench Aaron Rodgers or anything, but fantasy owners can do worse than Tim Tebow.

If nothing else, maybe some of his last-minute heroics will rub off on your roster. His team regularly seems to find a way to win.
